About

Syriac Serto is a Syriac keyboard for iPhone and iPad that types real Unicode Syriac — text that works everywhere: Messages, Mail, Notes, Safari, search, and copy/paste — and renders it in a graceful Serto (Western) script. PHONETIC, QWERTY-MAPPED Every Syriac letter sits at the position of the Latin key with the nearest sound, so if you know QWERTY you can start typing Syriac right away. The three vowel keys (u, i, o) carry the West-Syriac Serto vowels. Cursive shaping is automatic — the correct initial, medial, and final letterforms are chosen for you, so there are no separate positional keys to hunt for. REAL UNICODE — NOT A "FONT TRICK" Older Syriac "fonts" map Latin letters to Syriac shapes, so the text only looks right where that exact font is installed and breaks the moment you copy it elsewhere. Syriac Serto is different: it inserts genuine Unicode Syriac characters. Your writing stays correct in any app, on any device, forever. PRIVATE BY DESIGN The keyboard does not request Full Access. It has no network access and cannot see your typing history — it simply inserts characters. Nothing you type is ever collected, stored, or sent anywhere. BEAUTIFUL SERTO RENDERING Keycaps and text are shown in Noto Sans Syriac Western, an open-source Unicode Serto typeface, so what you type looks the way Syriac is meant to look. INCLUDED COMPANION APP The app walks you through enabling the keyboard and includes a live preview area where you can try the layout and see your Unicode Syriac rendered in the Serto face. LONG-PRESS ALTERNATES Press and hold a key for related letters and variants (dotless dalath/rish, final semkath, reversed pe, and more). HOW TO ENABLE 1. Open Settings > General > Keyboard > Keyboards > Add New Keyboard. 2. Choose "Syriac Serto". 3. In any text field, press and hold the globe key and pick Syriac Serto. Made with love for the Syriac, Assyrian, Chaldean, and Aramaic-speaking community, and for anyone reading or writing Classical Syriac.
