About
Tactus lets you enter a passage of changing meters in seconds, then subdivide every beat exactly as the passage demands.
Tactus is a rhythmic mapping tool for musicians working with complex, changing meters and subdivisions. Tap through a bar of 5/8, into 7/16, into a plain 4/4. Then shape each beat as detailed as you want it to be.
MACRO ENTRY
Tap the meter keyboard to build your bar sequence, one tap per bar: 5/4, 7/8, 3/16, anything
Enter any custom meter too, any numerator from 1 to 32 over 2, 4, 8, or 16
SUBDIVISION
Any beat can be subdivided independently, as detailed as you want it to be
One beat can sit in triplets while the next sits in quintuplets
Tap any pulse to cycle strong, normal, soft, silent, each with its own pitch and amplitude
Group consecutive beats into a tuplet, like 3 notes over 2 beats, and subdivide a single pulse again into sub-pulses for nested rhythms
TEMPO, SHAPE & ORGANIZATION
Draw a quick but detailed tempo ramp across a range of bars for a written accelerando or ritardando
Override the tempo of a single bar for metric modulation or a conductor's marking
Layer conducted feel on top of the click, a visual-only pattern showing how a conductor would beat the meter, in 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or 8
Set a bar number offset so on-screen numbers match your printed score
SYNC & SHARE
Passages live in iCloud and appear automatically on every device signed into your Apple ID
Ableton Link lets Tactus start and stop in sync with another Tactus user, or any Link-enabled device, on the same network
Export any passage and share it with a collaborator, so they see exactly the map you built
MADE FOR
Percussionists preparing contemporary repertoire. Conductors internalizing a mixed-meter score before rehearsal. Composers, chamber musicians, and orchestral musicians working through anything a normal metronome can't handle.
Tactus is a one-time purchase. No subscription.
