Highly recommend
Fun and super helpful. I’ve tried other apps but because Tahanan is so hands on, it’s actually making a difference. I’ve learned so much within a week of using the app and love the ai coach and real coach feedback. It’s what makes Tahanan stand out from other apps.

Great app!
You can definitely see the amount of effort put into this app, very organized and I appreciate how they went above and beyond to incorporate background information on Filipino culture. It's nice that they use real people for the voiceovers which lets you hear accurate pronunciation. After seeing this app advertised on Instagram I immediately downloaded and paid for my first month to work towards my goal of being able to communicate with my Filipino side of the family. I'd say their pricing isn't so bad because let's be honest- the average person spends that much at the drive through. Their lessons are easy to understand and have really helped me pick up new words and phrases. No complaints, I definitely recommend!

Great Learning App
I’ve long struggled to find a method of learning Tagalog, with the goal of conversational fluency with my fiancée and her family. After trying many apps, this one finally has helped me take big steps toward that goal! Between the lessons, flashcards, AI conversational phone calls, and assigned tutors - I have learned at a much faster pace than ever before! The price is higher than many other apps, but the return on investment is well worth it.

Tahanan😢
Tahanan was okay. You can only go to like 3 lessons and then it won’t let you continue without paying for a subscription. I don’t like that you can get the basic info without having to g to pay. I know most apps are like this. I would use Duolingo but there is no Tagalog.

Probably the best app for Tagalog that I’ve tried! The UI is really clean and I appreciate the structure of the lessons.
ZERO SUPPORT
If you use the trial, set a timer or add the ending date to your calendar. You get NO correspondence or reminder. I emailed the day my ended to ask a few questions and never got a response. I was charged the full amount for the subscription and was not able to choose which one I wanted to switch to. VERY disappointed.

When i first downloaded this game i thought this was free bc i found the ad on tiktok so i was like ooh let me try and when i opened it you had to pay and for a girl that’s never learnt her cultural language of Tagalog it’s a shame bc when i go back I won’t be able to connect n understand what they are saying as for a 16 year old going back to see my family back in the Philippines I would love if this app was just not only paying for the entire thing but sadly it is sad bc i undownloaded the app bc it was the one i really found that was good out of all of them that i found.

i am now 5 months into this app and will give an updated review.
there have been updates with the apps and Luke seems to be constantly trying to improve it. it will take some time and work, but personally I’ve lost a little motivation getting on it because of his flashcards system. i went on vacation and the cards stacked up to 250+ cards. let’s be honest, when you’re busy the last thing anyone wants to do is complete 250+. i offered my feedback to Luke and he stated he would just have a “vacation mode” option but changing the flashcards would mess with the algorithm of your learning pace. well i was just clicking that i knew every word for it to clear and that also doesn’t accurately reflect my progress. he then told me that you can save your progress and exit if need be. my only issue is that the cards will continue to stack.
i also realized that it wasn’t me being on vacation that caused it—it’s just how it’s set. the further you move in the lessons, the more words gets added to the cards. so even when i cleared it and was ready to just keep up with it moving forward, i got 250+ cards the next day again. at that point i didnt even want to open the app. other times, i opened it but only did the next lesson and the “coach challenge” and the flashcards weren’t touched. but Luke is set on keeping the card system the way they are.
this is a tad disappointing because the purchase wasn’t cheap and i feel like i didn’t utilize the time like i wanted to. i’m not sure i’ll renew after my year. i use duolingo for spanish and I love how short the lessons are and interactive they are. they even use timed bonus xp points that randomly get activated sometimes so what i thought would be 10-15 mins end up with me being on the app for an hour. so it works as far as getting people to want to use the app and actually spending time on it (if time permits).
Luke talks a lot about how “other apps” don’t target one language so the focus isn’t there. Regardless of his selling point, there should be something said about the success of Duolingo and grabbing people’s attention. I have had it since 2019 and plan on continuing to have it—-plus Duolingo is significantly cheaper than this app.

Effective, User Friendly
This app goes at a great pace and milestones are reasonably achievable. I’m learning to teach my daughter and speak with my husband and his family! Love the different learning techniques as well as the cultural significance included in each lesson.
Best Way to Learn Tagalog
I have tried to learn other languages via apps before with minimal luck. Tahanan has quickly taught me Tagalog, especially words and phrases that are beneficial! This app has been me favorite find of 2026 :)

this app was definitely a long time coming and i’ve been searching for an app like it. i relate to Luke’s story behind creating the app, except i was born in the Philippines and moved to the US at a young age. as i got older, i forgot how to speak though i still understand two dialects fluently. i felt too asian for my white friends and too white for my filipino friends and especially family.
I wanted to re-learn Tagalog for many years and i even tried the Ling app, but i didn’t think it worked or taught well, because i understand Tagalog i just don’t know how to put the sentences together grammatically. So Ling didn’t follow through for me.
the ONLY reason i stumbled upon this app is because i decided to ask chat if there were any good apps for learning Tagalog and Tanahan was listed on there. This was a few weeks before the app release and i wasn’t able to be one of the beta trials. I subscribed anyway, and downloaded the app immediately when i got the email of the release.
I like it so far. my honest opinion is that it still has a long way to go, but i’m very hopeful for its improvement and i can see the vision of it similar to when i started Duolingo.
I fly by these lessons, fortunately, because I understand it (otherwise I’m realizing Tagalog is a difficult language to learn from scratch!) and i noticed that some of the lessons had some errors or glitches. One of the practices marked my answer wrong and the “right” answer didn’t sound right to me. I asked my mom and she validated my assumption… so i reached out to Tanahan and asked them to reply to my contact message so i can send my screenshot.
Luke was very prompt in responding and quick to acknowledge any additional errors he found or glitches on the app and assured me that he will continue to ensure that Tanahan is teaching Tagalog properly. That’s one of my biggest concerns when it comes to paid apps! I don’t mind paying it, but it should be accurate and user friendly.
He told me there was a feedback link on the website that you can upload files on, so if anyone else comes across anything they feel is an error can submit that also!
I truthfully have high hopes for this app, there will be improvements needed since it is legitimately NEW. I’m just glad Luke is responsive and i can see he has passion for this, which i highly respect. He shared some of his vision for where he wants it to go and I’m excited for it! I already shared it with my family and my friends who I believe may benefit from it also.
For a start up app, i also think it is pretty pricey, but im gonna give it the benefit of the doubt. If anything changes in my experience, i will be sure to update accordingly.
For now, i definitely recommend supporting a fellow filipino because there isn’t an app like this as of yet!

such a great app!
love this app! i know/understand very little Tagalog, and this app has helped me piece together words and understand grammar. i like how there are multiple ways for you to learn (flashcards, fill-ins, etc.), and also how you can listen to how everything is pronounced. this app has given me the motivation to learn Tagalog!

Best Tagalog Learning Tool
This is the best Tagalog learning app! The structure of the curriculum is great because I can immediately put the words and phrases I learn to use. The flash cards help me remember new vocabulary in a meaningful way. The best part are the native speaking coaches, who will listen to me speak and provide feedback on my pronunciation and grammar.

Digital Immersion
I speak four languages, and I can honestly say this app is the BEST way to learn - it makes you feel like you have your own personal tutor. Tagalog is such a hard language with grammar/pronunciation, but this app makes that immersion MUCH smoother.
