What's New in TAK Can App
1.2.0
July 26, 2026
Marine & nautical charts • Optional chart overlay with high-resolution depth (CHS NONNA, Canada), US charts (NOAA ENC), and global seamarks (OpenSeaMap). Adjustable opacity and offline caching, under Map Options. Live feeds & hazards • Live hurricane feed from the US National Hurricane Center. • Earthquakes, tsunamis, weather, and Québec wildfires (SOPFEU) each show a distinct map icon. • Feeds load automatically on launch, and stale markers are cleared automatically. AI plant & object identification • A camera button on the map uses on-device Apple Vision to identify plants, animals, and objects and drops a marker at your position. Works offline — photos never leave the phone. Data packages & layers • Import data packages by scanning a QR code, or open .zip / .kml / .kmz overlays from Files, Mail, Safari, or AirDrop. • New Data Layers screen: a toggle for every imported overlay, an info view (filename, import date, SHA-256), centre-on-layer, and sharing of exported packages. Apple Watch • Record submersion water depth and pressure on Apple Watch Ultra as a Cursor-on-Target vital. Installs cleanly on watchOS 26. iPad • Fills the screen (fixed letterboxing after rotation) and supports Split View multitasking. 3D map • Navigate with one finger in 3D, with an optional gyroscope look mode. Security & reliability • Every TAK server connection uses mutual-TLS with certificate pinning; a changed server certificate is refused with a re-trust prompt. • When connected to more than one server, each server's data is kept isolated on the device. • Reliable certificate enrollment with self-signed OpenTAKServer and FreeTAKServer; the connection resumes cleanly after enrollment. • Additional stability fixes.
