I am a home health pediatric speech-language pathologist and I own and regularly use Hamaguchi apps with my patients. This is a great app for older kiddos. It is easy to use and it is well designed.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for your kind review. We really appreciate it!

Good content, lacks engagement

I used this app for my speech language students pre k to 2nd. They were not engaged in the lesson, it would be better if the content were more picture based and more engaging for younger students. The format would be better for older students however most older students already have these skills. Overall the content and format are mismatched.

Response from developer

Dear SLPchicago, While it has been a few years since you posted this review, we wanted to respond since Apple is now allowing developers to respond. We definitely agree that pre-k is too young for this app. We advertise this app for ages 6-12 as a way to work on semantic webbing, which is helpful to strengthen describing and explaining skills, as well as develop whole>part concepts and ways to expand on a topic. Many older elementary students actually do need work on these skills as well as you will find on tests that look at these skills (such as on the LPT Attributes subtest or the RESCA-E Describing & Explaining). Anyhow we do appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback. The Hamaguchi App Team

Excellent

Great app! This is a well made app that is very entertaining and helps kids learn about important details about different objects. It includes a nice hint section where you can tap on a button and it will ask you a question that might help you remember info about the object.

Response from developer

Dear WinterSLP, While it's been years since you posted this review and provided a 5 star rating, we wanted to say "thank you!" from our team. (Apple is just now allowing developers to respond)

Great

This is another well made app from this developer. I really appreciate the amount of work that was put into teaching you how to use this app and that it provides you with enough info on this page as well as within the app. I highly recommend watching the demo first, but the app is not that difficult to understand. I also like how she stated that this app should be used with the support of an adult because it is fun, but it is also a teaching tool. Great great job!

Works with groups too!

I love this app. I've used it with groups of first graders, including a student with ASD. I want all students to respond to each object described so I made pinch cards with the same numbers as the sentences. I prompted with "Is that true? If it is, then pinch the number. Listen to the next sentence. If the next sentence has more important details, pinch that number", and so on. After all sentences were heard, the students then pinched the number of the sentence that had the most true and important details. It teaches them to process language and determine quality answers with main details compared to unimportant details.

Problem with app

My students LOVE this app however today I encountered a problem. When I pressed the spinner, it would keep stopping at the "park" photo. When I pressed it again, it kicked me out of the app completely. Please fix so my students can continue to utilize this app. Thank you!

Great educational app

This is great for educational settings and for children learning how to describe objects. With the tutorials parents could also use it at home. I think this has great sentence examples and is great for students who struggle with writing as they can see what sentences look like in conjunction with descriptions.

Great app!!

Another great app from Hamaguchi Apps!! I love the brightly colored illustrations which makles this app easy to see for visually impaired children. This app helps to sharpen listening skills and my daughter had great fun opening the curtain!! lol

Good app defiantly like it

This gives kids away to learn how to describe objects in the home which they use everyday . This is really great for kids with issues in speech which by learning about the objects will help them to gain more skills in that area. I think this is also great for non special needs kids too as a way to improve their communication skills too.

It's helping

This is really helping with descriptions of objects and trying to get my son to talk about them and use sentences. We're going to try using this with group and one on one but in interim were doing it at home. My son is enjoying and I'm loving hearing him become more descriptive with objects and that it's rolling over into every day conversation.

Great App

This is a great app that helps a child think about an object and how sentences are related to that object. I am very happy the child has the choice to have the sentence read to them, as this is not available on so many other educational apps.

I like!

This app is very easy to use and very straight forward. I like that you can keep data on the users. This app is really great for vocabulary also! I like this app and would recommend it for Speech Paths.

Great!

In our homeschool curriculum, we have started working on writing details about a story or picture. I have found this app very useful in helping my child practice descriptions in a fun way. The app is intuitive and fun!

Encourages higher level thinking!

This is a wonderful app that encourages the user to use higher level thinking skills while helping the user to develop expressive speech by hearing the sentence that has been built, read back to them. It is able to be used by non-readers as it speaks the sentence that is written through the use of photos/pictures, as well as readers. Very easy navigation!

Talk about it: objects home addition

By Papadiz

I don't know what it is about this app, but I couldn't grasp the concept, even after several tries. Maybe should have tried it out on the grand kids. :(

Great app for early learners. :)

This app is easy to navigate and works well for readers and non-readers alike. Being able to correctly describe an item is a critical skill for cognitive development and this app well designed to help kids develop that skill. I like the record option as a method of reinforcing the concept. Great job Hamaguchi!

very Cute

this app is great! love that kiddos can record their voice an play it back. this app helps sharpen thinking and relating skills. it also helps with comprehension because by choosing what is relevant to the object it will help when reading a story and knowing what to tell others about what you read, what's relevant!

Nice App

This app plays well into our language arts program for homeschool. Our daughter has really struggled with things like this so this has really helped her. Keep up the good work! Thanks again for a wonderful app!!
