User reviews

SLP approved

I am a home health pediatric speech-language pathologist and I own and regularly use Hamaguchi apps with my patients. This is a great app for older kiddos. It is easy to use and it is well designed.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for your kind review. We really appreciate it!

Good content, lacks engagement

I used this app for my speech language students pre k to 2nd. They were not engaged in the lesson, it would be better if the content were more picture based and more engaging for younger students. The format would be better for older students however most older students already have these skills. Overall the content and format are mismatched.

Response from developer

Dear SLPchicago, While it has been a few years since you posted this review, we wanted to respond since Apple is now allowing developers to respond. We definitely agree that pre-k is too young for this app. We advertise this app for ages 6-12 as a way to work on semantic webbing, which is helpful to strengthen describing and explaining skills, as well as develop whole>part concepts and ways to expand on a topic. Many older elementary students actually do need work on these skills as well as you will find on tests that look at these skills (such as on the LPT Attributes subtest or the RESCA-E Describing & Explaining). Anyhow we do appreciate you taking the time to provide us with your feedback. The Hamaguchi App Team

Excellent

Great app! This is a well made app that is very entertaining and helps kids learn about important details about different objects. It includes a nice hint section where you can tap on a button and it will ask you a question that might help you remember info about the object.

Response from developer

Dear WinterSLP, While it's been years since you posted this review and provided a 5 star rating, we wanted to say "thank you!" from our team. (Apple is just now allowing developers to respond)

Great

This is another well made app from this developer. I really appreciate the amount of work that was put into teaching you how to use this app and that it provides you with enough info on this page as well as within the app. I highly recommend watching the demo first, but the app is not that difficult to understand. I also like how she stated that this app should be used with the support of an adult because it is fun, but it is also a teaching tool. Great great job!

Works with groups too!

I love this app. I've used it with groups of first graders, including a student with ASD. I want all students to respond to each object described so I made pinch cards with the same numbers as the sentences. I prompted with "Is that true? If it is, then pinch the number. Listen to the next sentence. If the next sentence has more important details, pinch that number", and so on. After all sentences were heard, the students then pinched the number of the sentence that had the most true and important details. It teaches them to process language and determine quality answers with main details compared to unimportant details.
