i love tall embark!! as i’ve been preparing for my mission, i’ve been running through all the basics and i feel like it’s really helping me learn phrases that will be useful as i get started in my mission. i had some confusion on how to use the app (i thought it was broken) but the support team at embark were able to answer all my questions. they are so supportive and willing to help! i really love how you can create your own sentences and phrases and add them to the different sections in the app. i created many sentences and added them to the prayer section so i could learn/memorize more phrases to expand what i wish to say. super helpful and specific to what i’ll need to know for my mission!

So good for mish prep!
I start home mtc in a week and then will eventually make my way to Indonesia and this app has helped TREMENDOUSLY to help me learn Indonesian!!! I was hesitant at first because it feels like a niche language but not only does it have all of the church-y lingo it also has daily life options too. The sentences are also built the way they are wanting you to phrase things on your mission and aligns well with preach my gospel! Definitely helped so much more than duolingo or any other app. Absolutely loved the ai sentence creator feature as well :) LOVE EMBARK—TRY IT!!!

Great idea but what’s the point if the app doesn’t work
It worked in the beginning but when I added another language that’s when it all crashed. The app doesn’t work anymore. It only shows the blue background theme. I tried deleting the app and reinstalling it, restarting the phone. After reinstalling it gave me an option to log in and then it froze again. I couldn’t reach the support center either. When I click on contact the support center it opens the browser, asks me to log in and again I’m faced with the same blue background. I hope you can fix the bug! Thanks

Great app
This app has taught me a lot of church words in French that I have never learned in my almost 8 years of learning French and I find learning this really helpful because there is someone in my ward who is originally French so I can communicate with him. This has also helped me with everyday conversations that I could use on a European vacation that my family and I might go on. I also want to go on a French mission, so this could potentially help me.

Slowed Down?
I absolutely love this app it’s helped tremendously in trying to prepare for my mission.
Only thing I wish it had was a way to slow down the sound so I can figure out my pronunciation. It’s really hard trying to get my pronunciation right when it feels like it’s going 100 miles an hour.
Other than that I love it! After only a few lessons I’ve been able to start saying my prayers in spanish and it’s amazing!

So perfect
I like that it has allot of languages like Spanish and English Japanese etc and I also like that it dosent have annoying ads or that you need to pay to get better experience it’s so perfect the only thing that I don’t like is that sometimes the buttons don’t click and you need to press them allot of times to work but it happens rarely . For this app I can now speak Japanese.

Embark is really good, but…
Hey yall! It’s me, and I’m here to review another app! Today, we will be reviewing TALL Embark! Now Embark is a really good app. It’s helped me in my Spanish and ASL journey and it’s owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and it’s good, however, this app doesn’t give you as much drive to do a daily lesson as an app like Duolingo.
•This app has a streak option, but you have to complete a bunch of lessons to extend your streak, you can’t just do one lesson and be done, you have to do like 5.
•The way it’s set up is basically one color. Blue. Now, I have nothing against blue, but it being the only color you see is kind of rough.
•You need to download a lesson to switch to it. Unlike apps like Duolingo, where you can just click a button and forever have that as a lesson that you can do, you have to download the language again just to keep doing it.
•The best way to describe the layout is bland. It looks bland. Almost every other Church app isn’t bland. Gospel Library, Living, and almost everything else is actually enjoyable to look at, but Embark isn’t.
•It’s amazing for Missionaries, don’t get me wrong!
•The themes are pretty cool when you get them.
•When they ask you a question, like “what is family”, but when they ask you something else, it doesn’t have a picture. My suggestion here is to add an animated image to everything because if one is animated and the other is a photo, then I’d go crazy (jk)
•I personally want some way to track my progress, and in-app rewards for progressing. The streak is good, but - like - Duolingo has the XP and gems, and if you get enough XP, or you extend your streak high enough, you get gems that you can use on things like streak freezes or something like that. Basically, gamifying the app a little bit will keep me coming back to do my lesson.
•This is just a suggestion, but it would be really fun if you added profiles so others could see your progress and want to also progress. Just a thought.
•So it’s an amazing app in some aspects, but it needs to work on others to become the go-to language app. Would not suggest it right now in its current state, but if it changes itself a little bit, then I would 100% recommend it to people. Perfect free learning app!
This app is super helpful for serving a mission and has Marshallese which I can not find anywhere else.!However I had some issues with sound but I found it if you just delete the app and redownload it it fixed my problem. Such a great app highly recommend

Best Language Learning System Around!!!
Ive tried many language learning programs, immersion classes, duolingo, babble, rosetta stone, and they dont come close. Using this + an imersion class or program is probably the best way to learn a language.
I highly recomend this app to anyone wanting to learn a language. As it is a resourse for the Church of Jesus Christ it is highly focused on their religeon, but there are ways around that if you dont want to.
Though right now it is only avalable to members, if you set up a church of Jesus Christ account for yourself then you can sign into this program for free.
That is the best part, its entirley free. Hope this helps on your decision to use this language program.

Sound does not work
This app is super helpful for serving a mission and has Marshallese which I can not find anywhere else.!However I need to listen to the language said out loud to be able to understand and learn but the sound refuses to play out loud and half of the words do not have any sound available. It makes it super hard to learn a language that relies on knowing how to pronounce the he spelling.

Actually a hidden gem
Im biased because this app helped me on my mission, but despite the open-source feel I find myself loving how well rounded the language learning is! There are a ton of features that are all free and there’s no ads. Particularly their tools for learning Russian and Japanese alphabets is the best I’ve found for free. If you can get past learning religious vocab, this app is great for anyone

Great App!!
Love this app; however something changed a few days ago where it’s like I can’t master the topics anymore. You can still check off the topics but it doesn’t actually master you based off how you do on pass off quizzes

yep! We changed that a bit ago! You can continue to master words through doing the spaced review process! It takes about 6 weeks for a word to go from discovered to mastered if you do spaced review every day

This app is great! It does have a focus on serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, so it helps if you share that faith, but I would recommend it for anyone wanting to learn a language! It’s not going to get you perfectly fluent of course, but it’s a good tool just like other language learning apps. There are tons of different lessons, games, and resources focusing on spreading the gospel through AND every day use of foreign languages. If you already know a language and want to keep up with it or want to learn to use your language for the gospel (regardless of which denomination you are) it is AMAZING for that as well!
