Bad UI
Takes a while to load and has a very bad UI
Map doesn’t load
Went to the effort of downloading to use the map but doesn’t load
cannot settle the payment

Taronga App
Doesn’t work, no map, no Bluetooth connectivity. A waste of time.

What is the point? The app doesn’t work even on the zoo’s own wifi. Just pathetic.
Not very good
This app drains your battery and data. Map also doesn’t highlight wheelchair and pram friendly routs.
Better off getting a real map on the day
Could be great, but sadly:
- map isn’t fantastic (? no co-ordinates)
- times for shows are not updated
As a result, you’re better off getting a real map at the Zoo when you visit. Which is a pity, environmentally…

My Day function not working
Whenever I click ‘My Day’ button, the app would be closed. Very annoying.
Zoo app
I love the zoo and this is the best way to know what’s happening each day and the missions are so fun and awesome good job to the creator/creators

Slow Load Times
Used the map a fair bit at the Zoo this weekend. Sadly the slow app load-time (even after briefly locking your phone) and tendency to forget your map routes ruin the experience.
You have to wait 10-30 seconds nearly every time you unlock your phone for a loading spinner to go away. Then it’s a few taps to get back into the map (it doesn’t stay active). Then, if you had a map route marked you were following before you locked your phone for a moment, it’s forgotten and you have to set it up all over again. Not great to be fussing over your phone when the kids are about to run off in the wrong direction!
Once you are in the map, it’s a lot better. Really responsive and accurate. It’s just getting to the map and keeping it active that is a major frustration. Shows SO much potential, but the usability problems right now mean you’re better off with the paper map. Such a shame!

battery draining app
this app has many unnecessary features, such as animations and videos, took ages to open and load the app, and also it drained my phone battery. I think you should make it more lighter.
Not user friendly
Went to the zoo this Easter weekend. The map is terrible to use. Every time you wake your iPhone up to refer to the map, you have to wait ages for the app startup and images before you can get to the map. We ended up using the hard copy map they hand you at the front gate. The hard copy map is also better for kids to learn basic navigation.

It’s good to know where your going but if you have a cousin it gets a bit boring Cough cough Dave 😖🙃
Major omission
The Taronga website lists closures and works (such as the Food Market undergoing renovation - which is kind of important when you have hungry monsters to feed). However this information is not available inside the app. I would have thought it would at least come up under “Daily updates”, but that screen is blank.
