About
Tap near each lug and see which one is high or low. Tension listens to your drum through the iPhone microphone and shows the pitch at every tension rod, so you know which lug to turn and by how much.
MADE FOR THE FLOOR
- Put the phone down 30 to 60 cm from the drum and tap. Tension records the lug and moves to the next one in star order, hands free
- A lug map for the batter and the reso head, with each lug colored high, low or even
- One big instruction you can read from the throne: "Lug 5 is high: loosen a little", then which lug to check next
- Touch any lug on the ring to redo it
- 6, 8, 10 or 12 lugs, star or clockwise order
NUMBERS YOU CAN TRUST
- A number only when the tap rings clearly. Otherwise it says Tap again and why: the pitch was still falling, it sounded like an overtone, too quiet, too loud or too noisy
- Listens to the ring after each tap and tells you when an uneven head beats
- Center mode for the fundamental of the whole drum, plus Single head and Low drum (beta) modes
- Hz, note name and cents, and a confidence for every reading
LEARN AS YOU GO
- A step-by-step tuning guide
- Short articles on how a drum head rings, with sources
FREE TO TUNE. PRO ONCE.
Every measuring mode, the lug map for both heads, beating detection, the guide, the articles and sharing your readings as text or CSV are free forever, with no ads. Tension Pro is a one-time purchase that adds ratios between your readings (reso against batter, lug pitch against fundamental), a spectrum view, a tone generator and a PDF tuning card.
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
No account, no ads, no analytics, works offline. The sound is analyzed on your iPhone and is never recorded or sent. Readings stay on screen for the session; use Share to keep a copy.
Tension measures and compares what you tap. Choosing how your drum should sound is up to you. Readings come from your iPhone's microphone; results depend on the room and how you tap.
