Wonโ€™t open in ios17

I love this app. Even with out the companion book it is great! But now with ios17 the app will not open. Please fix this problem so I can use it again. Also, one suggestion is to allow the app to work in the background and not be effected by home screen lock. Many language apps I use allow the lessons to be played while either forcing the screen to not lock while open or to continue to play if screen locked. Thank you!

Keeps crashing and wonโ€™t open :(

I canโ€™t get the app to open with it crashing. I tried deleting and redownloading but that didnโ€™t work either. Please update the app to fix this ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Does not follow book of same name

Buggy and does not follow book

Disappointed

I wish that the conversations were included in the oral section. I feel it is most helpful to hear the words in context. I was surprised that only the vocabulary list is vocalized.

Highly recommend

This app is wonderful. Designed to create a broad, strong foundation in Thai language. Female and male speakers help to sharpen listening skills. The tests provide an effective way to measure progress and identify weak spots. One of the best learning tools I have on my devices. This company clearly cares about quality.

Learning aid for Thai for Beginners

If youโ€™re learning Thai from Benjawan Poonsan Beckerโ€™s Thai for Beginners, this is a helpful aid for practicing vocabulary, studying sentence structure, and improving pronunciation. It used the same English transliteration as the book. I am using the book and CD for a class Iโ€™m enrolled in but got this app to focus in on the pronunciation of specific words (which is harder to do when rewinding the audio from the CD). If you are serious about learning Thai this is a valuable beginner resource.

Only missing one thing!

This app is a great companion to the book! I love it. However the conversation audio from the book is missing. Everything else is there and it's super helpful. This would be a five star review of the conversation audio was there.

The UX of the app is also not great but that's not really the point. Would happily give five stars even with the UX if the conversation was in here.

Nice app; would love listen-only option on quizzes

I have been studying the book Thai for Beginners for awhile now, then discovered this app. I like the quizzes and customization options. However, I can read Thai really well. I need more work on listening. I would love for there to be a Listen-only option for the quizzes, so I can drill myself more. Thanks for making and updating this app! :)

Great addition to the book

This is by no means a replacement for the excellent Thai for Beginners book by the same author but as an additional app it reinforces the lessons. In fact there are additional sections of hundreds of very useful phrases and sentences not found in the book. Paiboon continues to update and enhance the app as it does all of its apps. Not just bug fixes but new functionality with every release.
The ability to read the vocabulary then test yourself on both reading and listening is a terrific reinforcement.
Having said that, I would like to see the addition of the conversations from each chapter as well as a focus on tone rules within consonant classes in the writing system chapter.
One other (and very strong) request for enhancement would be the ability to choose different fonts, especially for the Thai writing system. I have learned classical font fairly well but now that I am in Thailand I can't read a bloody thing because all the signs are in modern font which is so different it could be a different language. Paiboon has given that ability in their five star plus dictionary program.
That is not a criticism, it is my wish list to help other students learn right from the start.
To anyone that is seriously interested in learning Thai I cannot recommend their dictionary too much! For an app it is expensive but worth every baht! There is nothing else on the market that even comes close.

Great with book ... where is the audio to complex vowels

Great companion to book. Helps with pronunciation immensely. Where is the audio to accompany the complex vowels in Chapter 3? It would be a welcome addition.

Beginner Thai

This is a great book to learn Thai. Benjawan has really did a fantastic job writing it. It's easy to read and understand. It's a must have if your going to Thailand or even if you already know people in Thailand.

Great learning app

This was the best app to learn Thai before, but with recent upgrades it is even easier to study and learn Thai. Well worth the money!

Helpful tool!

I was convinced to purchase this expensive app because it was the only app that had a good handle on offering a simple way of testing your Thai vocabulary. After spending a few weeks with the app I was amazed at how far my Thai had come. The app is simple in design but has it where it counts. Such as, each word in the app can be herd spoked by a native thai speaker. This feature is common among many thai apps, however this app goes above and beyond the has each work read by a male and a female. This is helpful for the learner to hear the same word or sentence spoken by both men and women.

This is a great app and well worth the money I payed for it. They have other apps on the market that I will invest in soon.

Fabulous resource

This is the single best app resource for learning Thai from the start. It is an ideal compliment to the book. If you use the "Thai For Beginners" text by Benjawan Poomsam Becker, this will help you memorize the vocabulary in half the time. There are comprehensive flash card and multiple choice quiz card tools that are fun and highly effective. Well worth the cost.

A MUST buy if you are using the Benjawan text book!

Fun and it works

Good flash card style app. I wish it were integrated with Paiboon's stellar dictionary. Still, very good value.

Please change back font

The new update changed the font for Thai text to the less used variant, please change it back to normal or provide an option!

Almost there!

I actually bought this software in Thailand in 2004. I have to say it is the best Thai learning software I've found. I was happy to find this as an iPhone app because the PC program does not work with my Vista software. Unfortunately, the Writing System multiple choice quiz has no choices to choose from! When this is fixed, I will change this rating from 3 stars to 5.

Buy this app

I love this app for learning Thai because it has the pronunciation at your fingertips. The quizzes for listening / reading are also awesome.

The only improvement I would ask for is the ability to hide the romanization. I've learned the Thai alphabet but I still read very slowly. This app would be perfect for beginning reading if the romanization didn't 'cheat' for you every time. Please make this an option and I will return my rating to 5 stars.

Thank you Paiboon for another solid product!

Love this application

I purchased the book in paper and this iphone version. I love both of them, however, I could not find the conversation in the iPhone version, so I could not say the dialog right. Will the author add the conversion in it?

A Wonderful Beginning

This is a wonderful study tool for those of us using Paiboon Publishing's books for the Thai language. It's really limited to vocabulary training, offering a number of ways in which terms can be reviewed, recognized by pronunciation and Thai script, or recognized by Thai script only. As such, it's almost worth the price for me, a pretty avid language learner.

Clearly, though, there are other aspects of the Thai language covered in the beginning book, and in future updates to this program I hope to see them: writing assistance, tones and spelling, sentence completion, etc., etc.

Although the iPhone version allows one to increase font size by the two-finger spread gesture, this isn't available on the iPad. In one occasion I find the iPad font to be too small to see comfortably (I'm 64), and it's frustrating that even with all that screen space it can't be changed.

So, I hope they're still working on this. It's a wonderful beginning, and as is it works flawlessly, but there's not enough to it to justify the high price.
