Deleted

You now need a paid subscription to access the news within the app. The news is really concise which is fun when it's free, but when it's not free, you don't feel like you're getting bang for your buck. I've deleted the app.

Ps. The right-wing bias never did improve.

Original review:

This could be a 5 star app, but two things hold it back:
1. It doesn't update every day. It's 12th December today, but the latest 'daily' news is from the 10th.
2. It's got a bit of a right-wing bias. Almost all of the opinion pieces are pulled from right-wing commentators.

Turned Right Wing

I used to love this app with its concise review of current affairs. A really great format with interesting snippets. However, these days the articles are heavily influenced by the authors political views and cited publications which are most often of a right-wing persuasion. This has undoubtedly impacted how the facts and articles are presented and received. Less opinions, more facts please. *uninstalled*

Good concept - flawed by it’s very biased reporting

Bite sized news - what’s not to like?

The fact that the articles come almost exclusively from the Daily Heil, Torygraph and other assorted right wing publications is what.

I’ve been trying to use it as my “counter point” news, as I really do like the format and want to try see things from the other side.

However, it’s become so unrelenting in its cherry picking of right wing opinion pieces (see British is the Envy of the Third World for details) rather than actual news or reporting that it’s started to read like a cheap printed propaganda leaflet.

Used to be good

This used to be a a great app full of small insights. However something had changed in the past few months. It now struggles to update and seams to show the same stories multiple times. It also seams to have become more click bate than anything else

*Could* be a 5 star app

Exceptional

Digestible and direct.

Biased reporting and right-leaning

I've enjoyed The Knowledge and am a subscriber to their daily newsletter. It’s a well-curated source of news, but readers should be aware that the perspective sometimes leans to the right. While the newsletter doesn’t openly endorse specific political sides, certain stories reflect a conservative-leaning perspective.

This became especially noticeable to me in their recent coverage of the U.S. election, where the tone showed some sympathy toward more conservative viewpoints. In a recent issue, for instance, Elon Musk was described as a 'hero,' and discussions about gender pronouns in child education were dismissed as 'claptrap.' For those seeking a balanced perspective, it might be useful to pair this with a more left-leaning source.

Unhelpfully rightwing, not very balanced

The pro-left stuff seems to be arty fluff and the pro-right stuff is whingeing, but then again, it’s easier to complain than actually figuring out what’s happening.
I’m torn, there are occasionally gems worth following up but most days I just feel that this is the right wing press getting the boot in early for the next lot of incompetent Old Etonians because it can.
It is good to look outside our news bubbles but occasionally I feel I’m trapped in Nigel Farage’s.
I am getting to the point where I regularly want to delete this app because it’s so biased.
Actually, I’m going to delete it, it just gets crappier.

Very readable

I’m new to this app but must start with a positive- I really like the selections and it’s a very enjoyable read. My big criticism though is that it doesn’t update at lunchtime (UK reader here) and I don’t get a notification when it does update.

Not always updated, poor icon

I’ve just started using this app and can say that it’s amazing compared to most news apps. it does a spectacular job of summarizing, the most important news along with more interesting stories. I’ve read that it’s politically biased but I haven’t experienced that myself.

My main criticism is that the app sometimes isn’t updated. It’s 10am right now and it’s still showing yesterday’s news. For any news app to be reliable, it must be updated every morning.

Also my feedback as an app designer is that the app icon is really poor. Number one rule of icon design is not to include full words in it, especially if there’s so small not to be legible. There are so many other possibilities for this icon, so please consult a designer to discover them.

More incisive reportage than other similar publications with better summaries

Doesn’t update daily news

I would love this app but it frequently doesn’t update the daily news. Today, 13th Sept, it is still showing 11th Sept. I just can’t make it load todays news.

The Knowledge

News in pocket size - brilliant snapshots, concise, informative, so much depth in breadth and a 100% delightful way of getting up to speed in 5 mins!

No balance to the reporting

Format, layout and bite sized news approach is all good.

Just a shame there is no balance to the reporting, which clearly is very right sided.

Interesting that the reviews are regularly cleared, as there are many that point this out

The most essential read of the day

I love The Knowledge. It’s brief, incredibly informative, and written in a delightful light style. I do miss the heroes and villains on a daily basis, but that’s a small price to pay.
Keep The Knowledge exactly as it is. My day wouldn’t be the same without it.

Worst Tory news app ever

They call themselves balanced. I’ve seen more balance from Nigel farages memoirs. Please don’t come here for news there’s plenty of apps with real writers

Great news source

I love The Week and now use this app on my phone.

A couple of tweaks would just move it up to five stars:
- updates seem to happen randomly mid-afternoon (UK), would be great if this was morning
- personally I like the balance The Week gives with one topic addressed from two different sources. Just reading a Torygraph article is, well, just reading a Torygraph article.

Small things but ultimately we strive for perfection 😉

The Knowledge

I was an early fan and subscriber to The Week.

This new venture from its founder is equally enjoyable and ground breaking, in these more Tech times.

Informative and fun
