About

No photos. No videos. No infinite scroll. Just a story written by strangers — one line at a time. Welcome to The Last Line - a collaborative writing game. Someone writes the first line and picks a genre. They become the Director. Everyone else reads that first line and submits their version of what comes next — one line, 150 characters, anonymous. Continue it. Twist it. Hijack it. The Director picks one from many. That line joins the story. Every other submission becomes a ‘Dead Line’. Dead Lines don’t disappear. They sit close to the winning line so anyone can read what the story almost became. Who knows, sometimes the Dead Line is the better story? This repeats, line by line, until the story reaches its final slot: The Last Line. The Director can write it themselves — or crown a contributor’s submission to close the story. That’s the game. So join in and write. It’s just one line. It could well be The Last Line. DEAD LINES Every line you don’t see in a story has a ghost. Tap any line to see the Dead Lines it beat. Like them if they were good. Prefer them if they were better than the winner. THE CHALLENGE Daily creative constraints that change everything. Try the ‘Hemingway’ where every line is exactly six words. Or ‘No Quotes’ where no line contains a quotation mark. Or ‘The Chain’ where each line starts with the last word of the one before it. And many more. The constraint follows every contributor. SEVEN GENRES Make them cry (Drama). Make them squirm (Horror). Make them laugh (Comedy). Make them wonder (Mystery). Make no sense at all (Absurdist). Make them sing (Poetry or Song). Or make your own (Free Write). Start stories. Add to stories. Read stories. Every line is a dare
