It’s hard to reach such a white background at night or early morning
Still no night mode
I have been a digital describes for years and there was a night mode on the old app. When the new app came out I sent a message to request this feature back since I often work and night and it makes it easier on the eyes to read the news in night mode. I was assured night mode was coming back, and… multiple update and still no night mode. The only positive the new app has is crossword puzzles. Bring back night mode.

Each fix is worse than the one before
Great update, not. Now o can’t open the newspaper. Just add for north coast rep. Fix it please.

Content is good , but when you read an article is does not go back to the same place but gets lost . Need to go back to the same place . Getting old and need to have possibilities of enlarge the the letters .

Terrible upgrade. Can’t access “newspaper” without automatically selecting the first article. Forget accessing sections anymore. Totally useless.
I don’t like the new online version
I don’t like the article version. I like to see the newspaper end go to the sections I want to read. I find the new version very “clunky”
Marketing Director Should be Fired
I signed up for the $1 for a year online subscription. Occasionally I am able to log in but not often. Everyday I get another offer. I tried to sign up again but was told I have an account. Please quit contacting me.

Cannot choose which section to read , cannot change format of layout, I would like to start at c and then b ?
The page keeps moving once an article is read and does not come back to the place . Started an article and once it has been read it does not go back to the same place .suddenly I am three columns down .

Thank you local journalists
The SDUT reporters continue to bring me the issues and analyses I want to read. Creative solutions for helping our unhoused and how it affects our budget choices are especially appreciated. I suggest an occasional feature where a question is posed and readers suggest ideas in short paragraphs.
I Hate to be negative but
Please get better. I used to deliver the Evening Tribune when I was 10. I’m now 84 which will tell you all about my loyalty toward our local newspaper. Not so local anymore. Since you left town all we get is warmed over local coverage days old. The same old stories as last month only by a different reporter. Are there any writers that actually live in San Diego County? Are you just trying to wear us down so we subscribe to your LA rag.

4/14/26 update
My app had to update in order to read the paper, now articles are only loading what’s on the current page I’m on, not the full article. If you swipe through to the page where the article continues, it won’t let you select the rest of the article to read. Please fix this bug!
Low tech app
Why is it impossible to have the paper stay on the article or page you were reading when you stop for a minute? When you return to the app you have to start over on page 1. There isn’t even a reasonable way to jump back to the section you were in.

Fox News, CNN news, PBS and the SD Union Tribune too- why can’t we just get the news like we used to without the biases. I don’t want to read your article with your opinion - that’s what the “Opinion” section is for. Ugh! Please report the news like it is with facts! Thank you

Cannot get the crossword puzzles to work on iPhone since latest upgraded. Other games are very difficult to use.

The UT has a pretty good job of reporting on stories throughout the entire San Diego County region.
Disappointing value for a paid local news subscription
I subscribed to the San Diego Union-Tribune expecting in-depth local reporting, but the experience has been underwhelming. The app and website lack a dark or night-mode option, which makes reading extremely difficult for users with light sensitivity. The content itself feels thin—more photo galleries and surface-level event coverage than meaningful reporting. Much of it reads like fluff rather than journalism that explains what’s really happening in San Diego. For anyone looking for serious coverage of city and county issues, Voice of San Diego offers far more researched, substantive, and informative reporting.
