I guess

Decent feature only option i saw on app store

Frustrating

Being able to edit a file is nice, however, it’s like pulling teeth to save the result. I don’t know why it needs to be so difficult.

Hello, Thank you for your review. I develop the app based on user requests and feedback and I am here to help. In general the app saves the document when you close the document, and the document is visible in the document explorer on the front page. Is it possible for you to send me an email with your use case so I can try to fix the issue. My email is henrik@nyetal.dk, you can also find it in the App. Best Regards Henrik

It’s so hard to select text.

I tried to download this app to edit text, but it’s really hard to even edit it. Please make it easier to work with, similar to the apple notes app.
I downloaded this app cause apple notes app can’t color code the text.

Hiding behind a pay wall

Another text editor which you have to pay to use. Not worth it.

Response from developer

Thank you for your review. I'm sorry you've changed your mind - from 5 to 1 star. I've thought a lot about how I could create a business model that on the one hand covered my costs of having the app in the App Store and motivated me to maintain the app, and on the other hand was fair to the users. And I feel that a low one-time payment could be just that solution. I often hear the phrase, "It's just a text editor". But I can tell you that even a small text editor consists of thousands of lines of code and many test cases. I hope you understand that even a software developer can not work for free. Thank you Henrik Henrik

Great app!

I’ve been looking for a simple app that allows me to write and open .txt and .rtf files without all the overhead most other apps burden themselves with. THIS IS IT! Clean, simple, does just what I wanted. I LOVE IT (and you probably will too!). Check it out!

Very Good Text Editor

I am shocked at how good "The Text Editor" is! I tried 6 other apps that said they edit RTF files. This one does what I need! No Ads. Absolutely Free. It does strikethru when others don't. It has text string search when others don't. It's not perfect but dang, it does what I need!
What I need is an app that I can write down my daily notes in a long continuous list. Then I need to show which notes are "done" without deleting them. Nothing complicated. I write my notes starting with a double hyphen and then a space and then my note. I used "PC \ Wordpad" to set a "rest of lines other than the first line indent" to 5/16 inch. This only has to be done once in the life of the file. This creates a "hanging indent" (the double hyphens are all hanging out on the left side of the screen). Then I used Dropbox to move the file from my PC to my iphone. "The Text Editor" reads this file perfectly! Now whenever I need to show that the note is "done", I just type in 4 spaces before the double hyphen and the whole note is then offset to the right from the rest of the notes in my list. PERFECT! Just what I need!

Free, but serious limitations

I downloaded this because it was completely free, and I’ve had way more trouble than I should finding a free basic text editor (Apple: why isn’t there a version of Text Edit for the iPad?!?)

This app has two serious limitations. First, it doesn’t support predictive text, so I have to fully type Every. Single. Word. Every other word processing app supports predictive text.

Second, it says it supports iCloud Drive. I can figure out how to open files from iCloud Drive, but not how to save them to iCloud.

I’m going to finish the document I’m working on and then try something else.

Thank you for your review. The two issues you mention, will be fixed in the next release, and I hope you will stay with me and enjoy the app. Best regards Henrik

Maybe I’m stupid

But I cannot seem to select text- I did chance upon a select all command but couldn’t find it again- why don’t you include some instructions as to how to use this app? Also is there any form of margin control? My doc loaded nicely then expanded to the entire width of my screen, making reading more difficult.

A solid and well thought out new basic text editor

I'm always on the lookout for a new and better basic text editor. "The text editor" app is a good one. It supports text, rich text (RTF). Files created within the app are stored internally. That allows one to use a nice built-in search facility. However, this does cause one drawback: when you open a text file from iOS "files" and it loads in to "thetexteditor," you can only view the file. In order to edit a file, you'll need to open/create it directly from the app.

If you need to save the file to iCloud or somewhere else, you will need to use the share sheet function, which is prominently shown. The app supports basic functions like delete, rename and open from the three dot menu. The RTF capabilities are good and include image capabilities. What I really like is it doesn't limit you to only opening files with a .txt suffix. I was able to open up a large plain text “bookmark.HTML” file with this editor and it handled it flawlessly. The app evens lets you Zoom the text size in and out.

I am hoping the developer will add search and replace capability in a future release.

Need more information on use

Is there any source of information on how to use this app? For instance if I create a new text file I cannot see how to rename the file from “untitled”.

I think I must be missing something basic.

Response from developer

Thank you for your review. Yes you can rename the file from the menu button in the document explorer (The 3 dots to the right side of the image of the document)
