Won’t let you login

The recent update stopped you from being able to like comments. The latest logs you out the moment you login

Freezing, log-in issues

Always freezing and crashing between pages, but now I can’t log in, when I try to, the log in box comes up again and again. Please sort it!

Comments won't load at all

Utter rubbish. For several days, none of the comments are loading. Shows an error

Cancellation Scam

Subscribing is effortless but, you have to call in to cancel. Creating this friction is not user friendly and aimed to squeeze the most out of subscription fees in my opinion. Horrific.

Overheating

Ram packed with adverts that slow down your phone and cause it to overheat (even though you’ve paid for a subscription). Have now removed it and just read articles through chrome

Avoid

They make it as difficult as possible to cancel. Avoid avoid avoid

Mobile site

Every news article on the mobile app says “View online - This article will display on the web”

Glitchy & freezes

The content and layout options are great but this app is so glitchy now and I’ve used to for years! I cannot scroll through an article on my iPhone without it freezing, my phone heating up & then randomly redirecting to adverts I hadn’t clicked on. I’m close to cancelling my subscription.

Buggy

Using the iphone app. Constantly opens my browser to take me to advertising pages, despite me not tapping on an ad. Buggy and slow, frequently crashing or freezing. When commenting, there’s some sort of predictive text that automatically tries to finish my words for me (not apple’s predictive text). Awful experience. Tech team need to sort this out or they will lose subscribers in droves.

Was OK this morning but not this evening

The Times wants me to update using an older version but the process takes me round in circles. What do I do next?

Buggy app

I can see that I am not the only one who has these issues. I don’t understand why the web developers don’t fix them (I) when writing comments the predictive text adds extra letters and suffixes. I’ve seen dozens of complaints online yet no fix. This started a couple of months ago when there was a big ToL ‘upgrade’ (ii) the app keeps on randomly opening an advertising browser called static.reads.tv. This happens every few minutes. This also started around the same time. App Developers - please fix these issues. They are ruining the experience.

Adverts

Fix the bloody redirects to adverts.

Forced redirection to ads is still happening.

static.reads.tv is the redirection despite updating and deleting the app. Long time Subscriber but very disappointed by this.

Freeze, overheat, crash

Recent updates seem to have caused issues. Navigation between pages is unreliable (you swipe to the next and end up where you started), my iPad runs hot, and interactive features like quizzes frequently cause a crash.

Cheap nasty app

Hopeless app I expect way better than this from the Times

Worst app on my phone

Something has changed recently, with major consequences. The performance of the app is horrible: my phone overheats, scrolling through articles lags constantly, media is basically not useable. There’s also a new bug which keeps redirecting to browser ads for no reason. It is a really, really poor product considering the price of a digital subscription.

Crashes constantly - barely usable

Every day there are glitches which are annoying and spoil the experience. I have the latest iPad and a good connection.

The (overlong for the technology?) lists of tv programmes, Netflix programmes etc., have today again crashed the app and also crashed the iPad.

I logged in using the website and was able to scroll through the lists easily.

Advice from The Times was carefully followed by me but the glitch continues after every update.

Poor service indeed.

Update 14th November. The Netflix list, for instance, is still crashing my iPad. Cut and paste reply from Customer Services is of no help. Your previous response on this medium saying “we are pleased you are enjoying etc.” is just rude and provocative.

Update 23rd November. You recommend contacting Customer Care but they have not responded to, or acknowledged, my email sent 21st, 22nd and 23rd November.

Update 26th November. Well, I did receive an ostensibly helpful response. As requested, I took screen films of the app sticking and also the iPad crashing. It’s not easy to film an iPad crashing. I duly forwarded these to customer care and they were acknowledged. That was two weeks ago but, in view of the app problems, I guess some enthusiastic technician is beavering away - possibly. New app update available today but the overlong TV listing reviews are still crashing my iPad…

Update 31st December 2024.No problem with the customer service staff themselves but the annoying glitches in this app continue and reappear. I have accepted, as I guess many have, that the clunky scrolling on long tv related articles is “normal behaviour” and you have to wait for video clips to load - wait for ages and crash the app sometimes.

Today, when I click on comments after an article, I quite often get the comments for a different article. Then, when you are reading a comment and click on the option to read more, you are taken back to the beginning. Hopeless tech. I guess that I too will need to change to a different paper but which one?

Update: 21st February. For goodness sake, now the comments are no longer accessible and, when they are, you need to go back and forth to the article to tease them out of this ongoing tech. field of multiple glitches. Yes, I’ve done all the things you suggest - many times - please just pass on to the developers.

28th November 2025. The third alteration to the crossword grid (using concise) in the last few days has today reinstated a problem. On my iPad, I cannot do the crossword, using the iPad in landscape, without again having to scroll up and down to see the grid. How difficult can it be to check the settings and get this right?

Also, my iPad still crashes when scrolling through the overloaded television sections. I took the trouble to send you screen grabs and recordings of this problem last year, as requested. I shall not be doing so again.

1 May 2026 update. Yet STILL, every day, this app is clunky and erratic when scrolling. Almost every day the app crashes and quite often it crashes the iPad.

I have been updating comments for a long time - see above. The app is almost unusable; it still constantly crashes and often crashes my iPad. Also the intrusive ads open in my browser without my clicking on them.

App keeps redirecting to ads

This app is a shadow of its former self (daily edition) Articles are reused for days but more annoyingly the app keeps redirecting me to advertising on its own in a separate browser. Please update !

Crashing constantly

In app video content causing constant crashes. Virtually unusable.

Terrible software as usual for a good paper

I’m goingg to write a review using the comments sectiontion of the Times newspaper per and see how many annoyingg additions it can add to the text as I am fed up withh this terrible lie softwaree that adds extra words and text often repeatedlyly.
Anyone else’s have this problem Len?
