THE TUB

THE TUB is an interactive sound sculpture created by Sebastian Suarez-Solis and Paul Yorke. It listens to live audio input (instruments, microphones, voices, or ambient sound) and generates a real-time response through a six-channel speaker system. This app is the mobile interface for visiting the installation. The TUB analyzes incoming audio in real time, extracting features like loudness, gesture density, spectral brightness, and pitch information. The system uses these features to steer its own behavior: how dense the generated sound becomes, whether it leans acoustic or synthetic, and how the sound moves through the gallery space. The result is a constantly responsive, slowly learning instrument that evolves throughout the week of the installation. THE TUB app allows visitors to send audio input directly to THE TUB and adjust its response parameters in real time. The app displays the system's analysis of your input and shows how the machine steers its output based on your settings. As you experiment with different parameter combinations, controlling density, texture, spatial behavior, and memory depth, you learn how THE TUB interprets your gestures and discover its tendencies and constraints. This app connects to THE TUB installation via a local network. Send audio from your device or external instruments, adjust the control parameters, and hear how the system responds through the gallery speakers. Spend time exploring different combinations to uncover the installation's behavioral logic. The TUB remembers earlier sessions, so your contributions accumulate and influence later visitors' experiences. This app requires THE TUB installation to be active and accessible on your local network. This is a companion app designed for on-site use at the installation venue.
