10 out of 10!!

I love this game, and it’s certainly my favorite mobile game. People usually play addictive and mindless games that really have no point, but this is a beautiful concept and all the characters have unique and interesting personalities.
I remember when I was young I would watch my sisters play this game, back when it was available in the PS3 Store. They never did get that far, and since it was a very long time ago and since it was available as a mobile game I decided I would buy it. It was worth the money and worth much, much more. It’s entertaining, beautiful, and such a nice game. The narration is so peaceful and the music is amazing. It just comes to show that you don’t need the best graphics if you have a story to tell, and oh boy does this game have a story. 10 out of 10 and I implore everyone to play this game.

I never thought I’d care for shapes so much!

What makes this simple platformer so engaging is its ongoing story. This seems like just a basic game of squares, but it’s so much more than that. As the player advances through each level, more of the story is revealed to them. A story of these squares, with individual names, personalities and thoughts. As the story progresses and these simple characters experience more of it, we begin to really feel for these characters and start to love them. Thomas Was Alone is such a mind blowing experience with more character development than most AAA games today!

Just Started Playing

Since I am only in the beginning stages of the game this is only my initial reaction. I enjoy the simple design, the story and the narration (Not being British, I love the British accent of the narrator!)

But, there are some things that could be improved to make it even better. First, optimize for the iPhone X screen. Second, make the control areas larger, especially the left-right movement buttons. Finally, while there is a “stretch” when Thomas jumps, there is no “squish” (or compression) when he lands, or bumps into a wall. That additional subtle animation trick would make the character feel more real and more fun to control.

An emotional story about... rectangles?

I had heard things about this game. I heard it was great. So when I realized I could get this on my iPhone, I was overjoyed. So now here I am. Beaten all the levels. Collected all the collectibles. And I still play it though. It might not be great in gameplay or graphics. But what does it strive in? Storytelling. The story is dang amazing! One of the best stories yet! And that's saying something because I've played Undertale. It's also really dang emotional! Yet again, because I've played Undertale. I felt like I was stabbed with a dagger in the chest after playing chapter 4. (You'll know what I mean once you play the game) I really would call this 11/10. No, 15/10! The only thing I can complain about is the price. I think $1 would be a better price as the game goes by fast. But overall it's a really great game. 15/10

The Blocks of the Century

A truly fantastic app. I love the narration, it's almost better than the game itself. And the simplicity of the game is phenomenal. Honestly, it's the best game I've possibly ever played. It's addictive, though not in an annoying way. It's very intellectual- The geometry and physics of it are really puzzling, it truly makes you think.

My only complaint, would be the lack of more levels. I suppose it's one of those one-hit-wonder sort of things, but it felt like it needed more... Like it shouldn't have ended there, like there was more to the story. Maybe it's hard to get the narrator back, and I understand the process of these type of games must be truly difficult, but I loved Thomas, James, Chris, Laura, and all the rest... I hate to see them end here. It feels like a cliff. A gap in their journey, that is in need of fulfillment. Those were my thoughts, anyway. I'm just a lowly 11-year-old though, so I suppose that I may not understand the complexity of the game-making world. The best game I've played yet though- So keep up the good work and hopefully keep up the creative Thomas characters, and make them alive again!!! They deserve the five-star-rating!!!$

Best iPhone Game

This game is just enough entertainment, frustration, satisfaction and victory to be perfect. I do wish there were more levels because I don’t want to stop playing! The characters are downright adorable with their different personalities and abilities. Some of the levels I would be stuck on for a while, and others would take only a minute or two. The plot is engaging. Like I said, the only way this game could be better is for there to be more of it.

Pros and cons

This is a game with beautiful voice narration and music. Those being its strong points, I would have liked more narration/story, especially towards the end of the game. As far as gameplay, it often felt kind of cramped and restrictive to me. Often it felt like the levels were just made to kill time, without any difficulty at all. I would have loved more closure when winning the game, or when things change a lot. It's a nice game and worth the download , but don't expect to be blown away by gameplay but instead by atmosphere.

Remarkable, Fantastic, and Excellent game.

A well-constructed game, elegant visual design, and magnificent music that perfectly fits to the ambience of the game. Switch between characters and solve every obstacles with consideration. I'm at chapter 2 and so far, it is really an interesting game and not that frustrating. Maybe it's because I'm not at that level yet. But I know that it will get more and more difficult as I progress throughout the game. By the way, I like the fact that the shapes has their own name, extraordinary I should say. A game that cost $1.99 that really is worth every penny, and if you're willing to purchase this game. Here's a tip, always remember that "Patience is a virtue".

Best AppStore game in a very long time

The game is quirky fun and very frustrating at times. This game requires you to think outside of the box and while there is a proper way to do things, there is always space to come up with new ideas. Each character is interesting in their own way and when something happens to them (for example you fall in toxic water)you will feel bad for these little squares. TIP: something I figured out is if you bounce John and Claire on top of Laura and you put Thomas or Chris on top of John they will go soaring in the air (useful for skipping tricky jumps)

Love it.

Best game I've ever played. I was sad when I beat all of the levels (Including the ones with Benjamin and his father). I wish there were more levels. Could you possibly add more levels and/or have user-created levels? That would be awesome. Some of the levels were difficult, but I found my way through them quickly. I liked how there were different characters to play as and how they all had different powers (that's what I call them) like how some jumped higher than others, how some were bouncy, how some could float in the water, etc (these were the levels where you could go through a different colored portal thing and have a different power). Overall, it's a great game, and my only requests are more levels and/or user-created levels. Thanks for reading. 😁

Decent but doesn't live up to the hype.

I wanted to love this game. And I was certain I would based on the reviews. But sadly, it just didn't do it for me. I hate to say it, but boredom and frustration are two words that I would use to describe this game. None of the puzzles are even close to being hard to solve. But it seems the creators make up for that fact by making the solutions time consuming. If moving blocks around again and again and again, back and forth and back and forth, sounds like a great time, then this game is probably for you. If not, you'll probably end up bored, frustrated and disappointed.

There are also aggravatingly difficult platformer elements interspersed throughout the game. Which might seem like it would be a great break from the monotony but somehow made the whole experience even more frustrating.

Don't get me wrong, I don't hate this game. But I can't fathom how it has such stellar reviews. It's unique, well crafted and has a fun story. And the use and combinations of different types of block to solve puzzles is a great idea. But the gameplay itself leaves a lot to be desired. I found myself finishing the game just so I could get it over with and move on.

Good game, great experience

The best part of the game is getting to know the characters. There is a broader range of character types than you typically find in a video game, especially an abstract platformer, and while they mostly play to type, sometimes they surprise you with a bit of complexity, or multidimensionality you might say. The platforming is nothing special. Sometimes is is clever and a little tricky to figure out or implement and sometimes it is just getting from point A to point B. It is not a fantastic game, but it is a good enough game that makes a surprisingly engaging experience.

Very cute :)

I just finished level 1.10, and I say... This is just so ingenious. Even though the characters are just simple squares and rectangles, you gave them personalities, which in fact, gave them quite the charming demeanor. Even though there just shapes. They're very cute. Original fresh. Ever since Pewdiepie and Tobi played this game, I was just enthralled with it, unfortunately- I didn't exactly have the money for it on PC, so when it was released for the App Store, I was just thrilled, and used a and App Store gift card to buy. However the controls are a tad bit frustrating. Sometimes I move my thumb too far from the arrows, that Thomas, Christopher, John, or any another AI just stops short from where I originally wanted them to be. If you could increase the control area for the arrows, that'd be amazing. Again, this is just a wonderful game. It just has to be features as the editors choice or an app of the week. Cause it's just that fantastic. Money well spent. Happy gaming. 👾

Frustrating and fun

All in all this is a fun game, but I'm rating it 3 stars because it isn't worth the money. It's a platformer with some puzzle elements. The characterization and story line are fun but spread too thin. The main thing is that I never turn the game off satisfied. Only frustrated. Some of the levels have difficult sections which would be fine except that the game has this nasty habit of making unforgivably hard platforming sections to get through repeat five or six times. If that wasn't bad enough, it mocks you by making it so that if you get through 5/6 platforms, and mess up on the sixth you have to start over. It gets particularly nasty when gravity puzzles are implemented. Also the controls could have handled better. Many puzzles require you put one character stand on the edge of a ledge, then change characters, but most of the time the game interprets an attempt to change characters as an attempt to walk off said ledge and start over. I've quit more times because of this than anything. Finally, there is a character who can double jump, except the game has a really we did idea of when it is/isn't appropriate to do so. So sometimes you'll make leaps of faith onto platforms only to find that the game decided you didn't deserve a double jump that time, so you fall to your death.
In summary, there is a fine line between challenging and frustrating.

Best

It got a little buggy on me a couple times, but other than that it has a beautiful aesthetic and a calming soundtrack to ease the madness over the brilliant platforming puzzles. Level 4.8 is bugged though, John just dies when you reach the portal, you can tell because he glows and then the level restarts. The first time I played through it only happened the first time I reached the portal, now I accidentally restarted the game (those buttons are too close by the way) and this I can't pass the level.

Best Game I've Played on an iPhone

This game was amazing and definitely deserves its five star rating. The game's mechanics are similar to other basic platformers, but makes the levels fun and intriguing because of the different abilities of the rectangles. This makes the gameplay richer. And of course I must not forget the story. When I bought this game and saw its glowing reviews I was pretty skeptical of whether the plot would be that good. I was very pleasantly surprised! I became so attached to the characters, I found myself routing them on at points at grieving them others. The narration really makes the rectangles come alive and the story is quite deep and emotional. And finally the soundtrack is better than any game I've played on iPhone and really set the stage during the sad parts. The only complaint I have was the ending was a bit abrupt, but the rest of the story makes up for it. There is also an additional few missions that is basically a prequel and gives the background of one of the characters. I'd love to see more additional missions with back stories of the other characters! Over all it's a great game and highly recommend it!

I'm... Speechless.

At first playing it, I was very disappointed. I wasn't sure if it was worth it. Then, as the storyline grew I was overwhelmed with such happiness!! It is a GREAT story, and challenging levels which take me some time to figure out. The only downfall I see in this game is the swearing. When I go babysitting, I love to have the children play the game. But I don't want them hearing swear words! (Personally, I don't want to hear swear words either) it's just a suggestion. Thank you for showing me one of the greatest games of all time. Truly TRULY worth the money :)

Great platforming fun, with a story!

An iOS game with nice minimalistic graphics, great gameplay has a GOOD STORY? No way! I only had 5 dollars left over on my account, and decided between TWA (thomas was alone) or TNG (Traps n Gemstones). They had the same IDEA, right? Well, thats what I thought. TNG was an adventure platformer, like those old games that everyone loves, where you collect treasure, and all enemies one hit you. I thought this would be the same, but seeing the reviews about a full blown out story took me away. While TNG is not going to be $2.99 for a long time, i thought, TWA isnt going to be 4 dollars for a while either! The stroy element took me away, and im glad i made that choice. The music, the voice acting of the narrator, the sound effects of "inverse falling", just blew my mind, and Im so glad I bought TWA. Its a beautiful game, even if it was "made" for 9,10 and 11 year olds.

Absolutely Stunning

A truly stunning game. The writing is positively perfect, and the narrator executes the script with exquisite taste. Playing the first few levels, my smile grew from ear to ear after hearing the witty banter from these strange little blocks. The characters are so fleshed out, so well written, for, well... blocks! They portray these very human-like emotions that actually moved me to tears. And the music, oh the music. Don't even get me started, because it's some of the best I've heard. The soundtrack provides this astonishing aesthetic for the game that I simply cannot put into words. Art direction in this game is simply phenomenal; the contrast between the background and the characters is truly incredible. An award-winning app, it provides a beautiful, heartwarming story, as well as some amazing humor. This is more than just a game, it's an experience. This game provides a powerfully moving, beautiful, undertone, which, in the end actually brought tears to my eyes. Gorgeously created, I would recommend all to play this game.

Amazing Game

It is unbelievable how much character can be put into a rectangle just through narration, to the point you start caring for a little red rectangle and feeling sorry for a tall yellow rectangle. I almost cried over a big blue cube wile playing.

The story is amazing, the puzzles are varied and fun to solve, some of them have many different methods you can use to complete them.

I would definitely recommend buying this game. I still haven't finished it yet or even started the expansion story it comes with so I am going to stop typing and get back to playing.
