About
Pulled a tick off? The species is only half the answer.
Every subscription starts with a free trial. After the trial, Tick ID requires a subscription - the identification and risk assessment described below are subscriber-only features.
WHY ATTACHMENT TIME MATTERS
Most tick-borne infections need many hours of feeding before they can pass to you. Lyme disease generally needs more than 24 hours of attachment, and the risk climbs sharply after 48. That is why Tick ID asks how long the tick was on you and scores the bite on species AND time - not the species alone, the way a plain identifier would.
WHAT YOUR SUBSCRIPTION UNLOCKS
- Species identification from a single photo
- A risk level for your specific bite, based on species and attachment time
- The diseases that species can carry, and which ones it cannot
- Life stage and whether the tick had fed
- CDC-based removal instructions, and the folk remedies to avoid
- Clear signs that mean you should call a doctor
HOW IT WORKS
1. Photograph the tick, or pick a photo from your library
2. We identify the species in a few seconds
3. Tell us how long it was attached
4. Read your risk, the diseases involved, and what to watch for
BUILT TO ERR ON THE SAFE SIDE
When the species cannot be confirmed, or you are not sure how long it fed, Tick ID scores the cautious case rather than the reassuring one. Powassan virus can pass in as little as 15 minutes, so a quick removal is never reported as an all-clear.
IMPORTANT
Tick ID is an educational aid, not a medical service, and not a diagnosis. Identifications are AI-generated and can be wrong. Most ticks are not infected, but that cannot be determined from a photo. A low-risk result is not a reason to skip medical advice. If you feel unwell after a tick bite - fever, chills, aching joints, or a rash spreading from the bite - contact a doctor. In an emergency call your local emergency number (911 in the US).
