About

This app assists engineers in selecting and understanding ISO 286 fits for mechanical designs. It calculates clearance or interference based on nominal size and basis classes, providing visual representations of resulting diameters. The tool also estimates contact pressure and stress for press fits and includes a reference guide for definitions and recommendations.

What's New in ToleranceLab

1.10

August 25, 2026

This release corrects the ISO 286 calculations. Results now match the published standard, so values differ from previous versions for most fit classes — interference fits especially. • Rebuilt the ISO 286 tolerance tables. Hole and shaft deviations, tolerance grades, and the finer nominal size ranges now follow ISO 286-1 and ISO 286-2 exactly. • Fixed inch mode, which showed millimetre values labelled as inches. Diameters entered in inches are converted properly, and results are shown to a useful precision. • Fixed press-fit contact pressure and assembly force, which read about 10% high, and the warnings now use the materials and friction you enter. • Corrected the shaft-basis interference recommendations, which suggested clearance fits. • English now appears as a supported language. • Added titles to the Reference and Settings tabs, localized the theme setting, and improved VoiceOver support. • Diameters outside the supported range, and tolerance classes ISO does not define at a given size, are now explained instead of showing a blank result.
