Abandoned App?
I was excited to purchase a subscription and start exploring the app. Just as others have complained, it’s impossible to even create an account bc it perpetually warns you that notifications are turned off, prompting the user to either go to settings, or “cancel” out of the pop-up window.
The pop-up warning appears any time I try to create an account, or navigate through the app.
Recent reviews, unfortunately, indicate this is an ongoing issue. Version history shows the app has NOT been updated for at least one year. That is concerning and strongly suggests the developers are no longer actively maintaining the app.
In summary, this app continues to take your money, but developers are no longer maintaining it to ensure functionality.
What gives, APPLE? Why would you allow developers to offer apps that have clearly been abandoned by the developers?

Bad software
The operating system of this app is very bad, you sign up for the subxripxipn and register your card and then the app blocks access to your videos, it says you have to register and you are already registered, but it is difficult to enter again, the app gets stuck, it does not open what you want, it seems like a software failure, it lacks a lot of engineering, do not register, the app still works very badly, and on the website too.

Fix the app
Bro, you have a bad review from almost 9 months ago now complaining about the constant notification bug. You still haven’t fixed it. Bad app reviews can kill a business. You also don’t reply to any of the bad reviews, are you even aware of them and that you have a 4 star rating and sliding? We need people like you and apps like this I love your content. Trust me I’m in the business, do everything you can to get 5 star reviews. It helps your business and shows you actually care about your customers.
Also when I login I have to keep choosing my instrument. Take me to the home page immediately to show me current videos and suggested.
I really want you to succeed. You barely have any reviews so each of those count way more. Can’t Subscribe So App Is Useless
I tried subscribing but it kept redirecting me to a page that said this content is only for premium subscribers. The app is basically useless despite how many times they advertised to me.
Fraudulent app
Took an annual subscription fee when subscribed for one month rolling. Ignored all emails. Scam - avoid. Reported to App Store
Too many iPhone app issues
The iPhone app doesn’t remember your profile and prompts for my instrument of interest and a bunch of other settings that get cleared each time I use the Phone app. If I had time I’d debug and get to resolution.
Not enjoying or using Tonebase like I had planned. This old guy is going back to old tried and true techniques.

Poor app
Love the content of Tonebase. Lessons are great, tutors are brilliant and there is plenty of content. There is a huge flaw in the app when i use it because i cannot progress from a level because of a glitch and therefore learning has been postponed for two weeks. The problem still doesn't look to have been fixed.

App buggy and lags behind the website
Much less featured than the website, an extraordinary drain on iPad Pro battery life, and full of annoyances that violate basic iOS UX rules (like being reminded every two minutes to turn on notifications, even when you’ve decided not to - why would you want notifications from an app like this anyway?). Their content is good but this app is not.

Great concept, just pricy
This app includes many fantastic features that I know would be helpful to any musician who uses them. However, this app is expensive. Other than the quiz, you can’t do anything in the app without paying for a subscription. The subscription options are:

The reason I’m rating this at four stars is because the app offers many useful resources for musicians at all levels. I’m taking away one star because it’s expensive. I do acknowledge that the price is fair for what you get out of the app, it’s just out of my price range.

The Best Virtual Resource for ANY Classical Musician
I am a professional cellist and have studied with many of the great teachers alive today…including many of the teachers available through this course! I have to say that as someone usually highly skeptical about these kinds of platforms, I am completely impressed. The cost of the course is what you would pay for one lesson with many of the artists available here. The amount of material covered is extensive, and I genuinely see this app as rivaling the traditional thinking about mastering an instrument. I think any instrumentalist should take advantage of this resource regardless your level. As I said, I perform for a profession, and I am still learning lots and getting many new ideas through this app. Classical music has always had ‘gate keepers’, and prohibitive costs—this is a large step to removing those barriers. 10/10!

Wonderful!
All does need a few updates to run seamlessly. However, it is an excellent resource to learn from. It would be nice to integrate a type of library that’s built into the app to save the annotated music and notes. Overall, I am very happy with tonebase and look forward to renewing my membership each year!

Works fine
The most recent release now has the same functionality as the website. Previously, you could only watch videos, but now you can access the community forums through the app. I have not encountered any problems with the latest update. I am using the app on my iPad Pro.
The worst piano app
First of all, it’s not even an app to learn piano but just a bunch of videos that show you how to play (thanks a lot, I could have used YouTube)
Secondly, I wrote to them like a million times and never got a reply, nothing, zero. I want to cancel it (I didn’t even have the chance of a free trial) and nothing, I have to suck it up because I’ll probably never see my $230+ back for an app that I will never use.

Great content terrible app
The tonebase piano content is superb for intermediate and advanced learners. Have gained so much particularly from the Taubman content. The workbooks are a great addition to the superb tutorials.
However the app is abysmal. I’ve got it to function once after installing but now every time I try it the content starts to load then goes into a loop where 0.5 seconds will play and it starts loading again.

Some feature requests
Tonebase is an excellent online learning platform for classical Piano (and possibly other instruments too). I have tried many and this is the best out there. I am glad there is an app now. I just have some feature requests:
1. Sound only option. A lot of the content actually can work as a sound only content, particularly the interview type ‘live’ events. It would be great to see that as an option so I can listen to it while doing household chores, like with a podcast.
2. Would be great to be able to download content for offline viewing, e.g when travelling or on holiday.

Great content, bad app
I thought other reviews were exaggerating the quality of the app. It’s…shocking. I consistently lose video when going from Portrait to Landscape on the iPhone. I have to quit the app to see anything….only for it to blank out again.
The iPad app is an iPhone compatibility app. It’s terrible.
Both of these issues are fairly foundational and wouldn’t take a competent developer to resolve. So begs the question…how is this possible? The content pages seem okay, perhaps some quick and dirty framework is used like ReactNative, and the developer doesn’t understand the foundational components.
Anyway, the app is definitely souring my ability to enjoy the amazing lessons, and content. It’s truly a weird dichotomy to witness such polished talent coming through an unpolished app. I really want to support this app and all of the amazing artists involved.

Amazing, please fix the sound
The app and the courses are fantastic, thank you for bringing this together. There is a slight issue with the sound and at times it doesn’t start with the video from the start or after a pause.
Crashes all the time, courses with no sound
So far I have only found one course on which the sound worked. All the others are completely silent.
On the course I could hear, the instructor talks about an available pdf we should be looking at, which is nowhere to be found.
The app crashes all the time and requires a re-login every time I open it.
Most part of the resources library is ‘coming soon’, so don’t bother signing up yet.
Too early a release, will cancel trial.

Excellent content. App not as full-featured as website
I enjoy in both the portrait and landscape full screen mode on my iPad. However, videos with the score showing below on the website seem to be kissing the score on the app version. I like that feature in the web based versions of lessons on peaces

Having been part of ToneBase users for about a year now, I know the feedback will be taken into account. The three stars is for the app and not ToneBase which is an amazing learning platform with high quality lessons, webinars and more.
The new app: 1. Crashes every time I try to open the bookmark list under ‘my contents’. I be some 100 bookmarked items so that might be an issue.
2. I have to login every time I open the app- does not remember username or password, even if the same device.
3. On iPhone the pages look great. On iPad the page is a small one. There is an option for full screen but is a bit cumbersome at present.
Happy to provide more feedback as I use the app more.
