About
See and learn scales, chords and shapes on an interactive guitar fretboard — in any key and any tuning.
Pick a key and a scale or chord. Tonic lights up every place it lives on the neck, labelled by note name or by scale degree. Tap any note to hear it. Change the tuning and the whole map redraws to stay correct — Drop D, Open C, ten tunings in all.
WHAT'S IN IT
• The whole neck: 22 frets, 14 scales, 10 chord types, every key, ten tunings (free: the pentatonics in standard tuning; the rest is Tonic Pro)
• The five pentatonic boxes and CAGED positions, computed for your tuning. Isolate one box, number it in playing order, or climb the neck diagonally (Tonic Pro)
• A playable circle of fifths: spin through all twelve keys, see the seven chords in each, and tap one to hear it strummed and see its grip on the neck (Tonic Pro)
• Chord grips with muted-string and open-string markers (Tonic Pro)
• A 25-lesson course, from the open strings to CAGED, the blues and the circle of fifths. Every diagram is a playable fretboard: tap it, hear it (first lesson free, the rest is Tonic Pro)
• A metronome with tap tempo, accents and subdivisions. It keeps clicking with the screen locked (Tonic Pro)
Notes are spelled the way a method book prints them: in G minor you read Bb, not A#, and flat keys show flats on the board, the chips and the lessons.
THE DEAL
Your first 5 days: everything unlocked, nothing to cancel. After that the board stays free: standard tuning, both pentatonic scales, every key, both labellings, and the first lesson. Tonic Pro is a one-time purchase — everything above is yours for good, updates included, on every device, with Family Sharing. No subscription. No account. No ads.
Tonic counts anonymous feature usage to decide what gets built next — never who you are. You can turn it off in the app.

Your screen stays on while the board is open. Put the phone on a music stand and it will not dim thirty seconds into a practice session — reading a fretboard makes no taps, which is exactly why iOS kept turning it off. The switch is on the Guide tab, and it is part of Tonic Pro.
