Exceptional

I got Topaz about two years ago, when it was a separate suite. I had thought about switching over to Magnific, because it was the only upscaler of its kind, especially useful for generative media.

However, once they consolidated into a suite, it’s like the team went into slipstream mode, no doubt aided by AI.

The upscaler is so much better, and I recently tested the ones for video, and not only was I able to execute it locally (and privately), but the quality was far beyond what I expected.

Not only was the 1080p better, but the upscaler to 4K did a KNOCKOUT job of mimicking and retaining detail that had been lost in the film to HD Cam transfer.

I then ran it through Hyperion HDR, and the quality was truly remarkable.

The baked-in plugins for Adobe, Da Vinci Resolve, etc., are also a plus for editors of video, compositors, and imagery.

When you get the desktop suite, you thankfully get the mobile application across your account, instead of getting ripped off (we’ll see, after Adobe finishes buying them…).

For now, it’s definitely one of the best options in the market, for professionals and tinkerers alike.

Can’t be run offline anymore

They have made improvements in image quality. but they have taken away the ability to use offline.

They have also changed what the subscription was in the middle of the contract. Like no longer being able to upscale past 32mp unless “upgrading” to a different subscription.

Look for free alternatives. Everything Topaz has done since being bought by adobe has been incredibly sleazy. Breaching their own terms on their contact, makes for an easy chargeback.

Don’t trust it.

Changes faces into monsters no matter what I tried

Great at first then turned to slop like every other app

This app worked for the first two weeks to upscale images. I paid for the annual subscription at $109. I didn’t have an issue as long as I was I getting great results. Then one day I go to upscale my images and it says I need to upgrade to a high package. The image I tried to scale exceeded the 32 mp plan limit apparently. I emailed support thinking it had to do with running out of some sort of monthly credits for upscales. No you can have unlimited upscales so long as they do not exceed 32mp. I find this strange because every image i uploaded at first worked fine scaled all the way to 8x. All of sudden every image exceeds 32mp, and I can’t upscale more than 2x. It seems as thought this happened overnight and the only real solution is upgrade to the Pro plan for $300+. I’m not a professional, I don’t need all that. I will be cancelling and deleting this app since it no longer works like it should. Disappointing because this was the best app I found for upscaling that wasn’t outrageously priced for an annul subscription.
