DX5 II + Topping App: A Huge Step Forward

I really like the app. It’s clearly designed around using your phone as the primary way to control the device, and the experience feels modern, intuitive, and well thought out.

I’m using a Topping DX5 II, and the overall performance has been stable. One important thing is to make sure your firmware is up to date before using the app. Topping clearly recommends this, and from my own experience, after updating the firmware it’s a good idea to perform a factory (hard) reset on the DX5 II, restart your phone, and then pair the device again. Doing this made the setup process smooth and trouble-free.

I also really like the app’s layout and overall design. Being able to control about 90% of the device’s settings directly from your phone is a huge advantage. You no longer need to look at the front display just to check or change settings, which makes the DX5 II much more enjoyable to use.

If I could suggest a few improvements, I would encourage Topping to continue refining the app and providing long-term software support. On two occasions I experienced a temporary connection issue. It wasn’t a major problem and it resolved quickly, but it’s something that could still be improved.

Another small issue I noticed is the volume animation. Occasionally, when increasing the volume, the on-screen indicator briefly moves in the opposite direction as if the volume were decreasing, and vice versa. The actual volume changes correctly, so it appears to be only a visual animation bug, but polishing this behavior would make the experience feel even more refined.

Other than that, the app is fantastic. From configuring the PEQ and changing display settings to adjusting the volume and accessing most of the device’s functions, everything is intuitive, responsive, and convenient.

When I first tested the DX5 II on its own, I would have rated it an 8/10. After using it together with this app, it easily became a 9/10. The app genuinely adds value to the product and makes the overall user experience much better. It’s great to see Topping investing in software support for a product that was already excellent on its own.

I hope Topping continues updating the app with new features, performance improvements, and bug fixes. The foundation is already excellent, and with continued support, it has the potential to become one of the best control apps available for desktop DAC/amp devices.

Latest firmware issue

My E50 II dac was on the original firmware (1.33) and the app connectivity was working fine. Since updating to 1.49 the connection is unstable. It says it’s connected, but I’m not able to actually change settings. Devs pleases look into this!

Topping produces the worst software in the audio industry

Very buggy. Constantly can’t connect to my E50II. Obviously the one developer they hired is clueless and never tests anything before publishing it.
