Tornado Vortex

A vertical current in the tornado column creates a magnetic field that wraps around the column, and that magnetic field then pushes on charged particles in ways that tighten, spin, and organize the vortex. In physics terms, the scene is using an electromagnetic model where current, magnetic fields, and charged particle motion feed back on each other to maintain a rotating funnel.
