Throw a folding fan and knock down the target. Experience Tōsenkyō, a traditional Japanese parlor game dating back to the Edo period, recreated at authentic scale and weight. Press the fan with your finger, pull it toward you, and release. That is all it takes. Yet the fan catches the air, flutters unpredictably, and rarely flies exactly where you intend. After the fan strikes the target, the final arrangement of the fan, butterfly, and pillow determines your score. Each recognized arrangement has its own poetic name, known as a “mark.” ■ 31 Traditional Marks Discover 31 marks inspired by the Ogura Hyakunin Isshu, recreated from publicly available Tōsenkyō scoring charts. They range from the 50-point “Ōeyama” and “Mikakimori” to “Fukukarani,” a penalty awarded when the pillow is knocked over. Every mark includes an illustrated guide explaining how it is formed. ■ Authentic Physics, Scale, and Weight The open fan measures approximately 40 cm, the pillow stands 17.5 cm tall, and the butterfly target measures 11 cm. Their real-world dimensions and weights have been faithfully recreated in 3D. The fan’s fluttering flight and the subtle way the butterfly comes to rest are not preset animations. Every movement is produced by real-time physics. No two throws are ever exactly alike. ■ Ten Throws per Match Compete for the highest total score across ten throws.
