What's New in Toucan

2.18.3

November 8, 2022

Toucans have massive beaks. In fact, they make up almost half of some toucans’ bodies. But scientists aren’t really sure what they’re for. Well, it turns out, they’re perfectly designed for squashing bugs. So we unleashed a whole flock on the code in today’s release to make it especially clean … unlike our office.

Love this App!

This app is exactly what I have been looking for. I can read websites and learn a language at the same time. Amazing.

Simple

I currently do not live in a rich population of french speakers, so as I take French 2 in Uni, I wanted something that I could keep up with french and not forget it. I do wish there were more words translated per page, but I am content with the amount the free version provides. It is my choice not to pay for more, so that's on me lol.

I do love the simplicity of the extension, it's not out to bombard me. If I know a word already, I am able to let the extention know without having to change pages. They blend effortlessly aswell, as they appear with a soft almost unnoticable highlight, which I really like.

I do recommend trying the extension out, if you don't like it, it seems like something you could easily remove. I don't know though as I haven't tried :)

UPDATE: I still really love the app but unfortunately will have to uninstall as my the backend of my job's website runs really slow when Toucan is on (even if I disable for that particular website). I found myself having to turn off toucan eevry other day when I work on the website. So I'm very sad to see it go. If there's a version for my phone that would be awesome!

Response from developer

Thanks so much! Sincerely appreciate it. So happy to hear that you love Toucan as much as we love building it! Keep me posted if you have any other feedback at all. :) Obrigada, Taylor Nieman Currently learning: Portuguese Co-Founder and CEO, Toucan

.

My cousin wants me to teach her English, and I want her to be able to learn even when I am not teaching her. She speaks Chinese but there is no option for that (Chinese to English). I’m wondering if you guys will add Chinese or more to the “I speak ——“ option.

Junk

This app is junk. Downloaded, installed, created an account… then NOTHING. The instructions to set it up are incorrect and don’t work. What a waste of my time.

love this extension !!

this helps me with my language learning process so much by forcing me to learn words while surfing the web and i love it so much. its kinda like a teacher giving you homework it forces you to learn something new, and in this case new words. its especially great for reading comprehension. i recommend this to anyone who i know who is learning languages and since us Gen z are always on our phones and what not this is great for us as well as people who work form home on their computers and students who do school work. i wish there was some way for it to do that with anything outside of browsing like on socials or when reading messages it changes words and what not for extended learning but it just as perfect the way it is. doesn't lag nor slow my computer down either which is great. highly highly recommend!
