Selma Sampler Tour

A taste of Selma’s place in history

User reviews

Special way to see Selma

We came across this app because our Airbnb host had built it for her guests as a way to experience Selma through her eyes. We were only in Selma on a Sunday, when most of the town is closed, and AC’s Sampler Tour was a really great way to learn about its history. She’s still working on adding in as many perspectives from other Selma residents as possible, led by the firm belief that listening to each other’s stories will be the only way to properly represent the deep history of Selma. Without her walking tour, we probably only would’ve seen the Edmund Pettus Bridge. Don’t miss out on this one!

Gem Insider Tour

My husband and I took a chance on this tour, initially skeptical about the quality, length, and perspective of the guide. However, we were blown away by the balance of depth and pace, the high quality, and viewpoint of the tour. Highly recommended as a self-paced, feet-on-the-ground introduction to Selma. Beautiful views of historic churches, buildings, and homes intertwined with influential people and entities that made Selma what it was, and is. We asked the guide, AC, why she did not include venues on the African-American side of town, as the tour seemed imbalanced. Her answer was encouraging, which is that it is not “her story to tell.” While I disagree slightly, she has concrete plans to bring in local voices whose story it *is* to tell. I hope to be back again to take more tours with the rest of the story! Go visit Selma, everyone.
