Amazing abandoned app

Without a very affordable subscription, this app has limited utility. Abandoned, but still not outdated. Wish it had lasted longer. RIP

No Server? Abandoned? …Was Favorite Trail App

(February 8th, ‘24)
I Would give a full 5-Star review if it still…worked? Never had an app I loved and used so often take such a nosedive.
I have used, and Greatly enjoyed this app for years. But the development team seemed to vanish or simply abandon their app. I am a software developer myself, and It does make me slightly angry to be honest.
At this point, the app should obviously be taken down, but there in lies the problem…I have over 3 years worth of trails, maps, recordings, special and memorable trips, etc. and more within the app’s Servers. (Which on the app, it has said for well over a year now…that, “The servers can not be accessed: Check your internet connection and try again, or email for support” -_-
It would be really unfortunate to lose all that acquired Data.
PLEASE RESPOND OR PROVIDE A WAY TO TRANSFER MY DATA TO LITERALLY ANYTHHING ELSE.
The App seems to still be “functioning”(ish)…but no access to servers and no help when requested.
Do not download this app! Unless there is an update that’s NEW, or I will be the first one to update my review if anything changes.
Come on guys, not cool to just disappear without so much as even an e-mail or notice that the money you’ve accepted from me isn’t going to truly get me anything.
Feeling a bit scammed. Either way, its odd.

Won’t allow renewal of Trails Pro

My one year subscription expired in February, and although I tried to renew it, it tells me it can’t connect to the server. Has this app been completely abandoned by its developer? Seems so.

Wish I could purchase Pro…

…but it’s not available from within the app. The section where it’s supposed to be just shows an error message that says to contact support. So I did and it’s been 12 hours now without a response on a weekday.

The other good reviews are spot on, but they’re all using Pro features. If that’s what you’re aiming for, look elsewhere because you can’t buy Pro anymore.

Abandoned by developer?

I’ve used this app many, many times for recording hikes, mountain bike rides and walks. It’s great as a logbook for outdoor activities. For whatever reason, it’s be difficult to find a good outdoor GPS recording app, and this one so far has been the best. My favorite feature is automatically stopping the recording when you get back to your start spot. Simple, but so incredibly useful. That all being said, it’s been a VERY long time since the app has received any updates. As a paid subscriber, it’s starting to make me wonder what I’m paying for. I’m hoping they do another release in the near future incorporating new iOS 13 features, like dark mode. If there isn’t anything new soon, I’ll have to find an alternative.

Thank you for making this amazing app available.

I have been using the pro version of this app for more than 5 years without any issues on my iPhones. For those of you that complained about the subscription fees was unbelievable. For less than a cup of coffee you get all the pro features for an entire year and if your worried about updates, all I can say is if it ain’t broken, you don’t need to fix it. Thank you. Awesome app.

Lots to like here!

I found a lot to like with this app. I wanted a tracking app so I could geotag my photos: adding GPS coordinates to my travel photos so I would know where they were taken. Trails allows me to export the track file (email, Dropbox, iCloud…) so I can import it to my computer. Using a separate app (Lightroom) I can use the date and time from each photo, and the track log, to geotag the photos.

I can also import the track into Google’s MyMaps to have a permanent record of that trip (hiking, biking, or by car).

Trails also imports biking distances directly into the iPhone health app, so I can see how far I rode each week, months, etc.

Yeah. Very useful.

Charges for everything

Terrible!

NOT FREE- BE WARNED

This App is not free after the first month or so. After that you can’t use it, which is a shame, because it’s a nice program. Oh well.

Good for me

I've tried just about every app like this and thought I found a couple. The time, milage, speed are right close to my watch. I like the interface I enjoy riding (which I'vr done a great deal). Not a racer but not one that rides a few mikes either. For medical issues I was homebond for 20 months. Ny encoligest last month recommended riding in s stationary bike. Told her no way was I peddling know where. Didn't want je on a two wheel as my boned are brittle. Mentioned a recumbent trike, she like thst idea so I brought one. aI want to lose the weight gained. Added to that I moved to because of the dr I was given(VA), so I'm not real familiar with the area. Won't ride main Streets, so anther issue. THIS app gived me speed(graft) distance, heart rate (graft), average speed, distance. I understand many others do basically the same but this is presented grafically in a way thst others are not. This is the first time I was able to set a pace and better abke to manage it without looking at my watch witch is a distraction at times. This will be the first app of its type that I will contribute to the Dev.
Remember we have different needs, this app meets MY needs, then some

Abandoned

This used to be my favorite cycling and hiking tracking app but this developer has basically abandoned it. Unacceptable for a subscription app. I can’t figure out how to get navigation working even though it’s a listed feature. This app makes me so sad because the UI is so much better than every other app for this purpose but if it’s basically abandoned then it’s not really a practical solution.

Battery

It consumed my battery so fast that I had to stop using it. Otherwise, it would had been an awesome app

App disappears when trying to import GPX

I just downloaded and paid for one year $4.99. Tried to import a GPX file (the main reason I purchased the app) and the app disappears. Using an iPhone SE (current generation) software version 13.5.1. Please fix this issue or refund my money.

Good, long overdue updates; new bug; still a missing feature

After a multi-year delay (unconscionable for a subscription-based app), the recent 4.07 and 4.08 updates fixed a bunch of misc issues. Response is *much* snappier. Even with my 400+ tracks, bringing up the list of all of them is almost instantaneous instead of a multi-second slog. And starting a new track is also much faster and no longer seems to lead sometimes to a completely black app screen. So overall, great updates.

But they introduced a new bug. The Trails widget on the Today View now tries to handle dark mode (which I use), but Trails' black text is not readable in that mode.

And Trails still lacks the important ability to do a bulk upload of all tracks as individual GPX files. Uploading them one at a time via the app's web UI is excruciatingly slow, and any tracks with certain special characters have to be renamed manually. An iOS update sometime in the last year or so enhanced the Health app to include GPX files that apps like Trails supply to it, but only a fraction of them arrive, and Trails' track names aren't included in the uploaded filenames. So the Health app's upload feature isn't a sufficient workaround for not having a bulk upload feature in Trails.

Before these recent updates, I was actively looking for a replacement for Trails, which appeared to be an abandoned, subscription app. With this update, it's back to 4 stars for me. Bulk track upload would make it 5 stars.

Used to love this app....

This was a great app! I used it religiously for years to track all of my hiking. It’s VERY unfortunate there hasn’t been an app update in 2 years. I just renewed my membership for a year and purchased the newest Apple Watch. Now the Trails app isn’t available to download on my new watch (Apple watch series 5). Most likely because of no app update. Now I have to stop using. Yes, I could use it directly from my phone, but that doesn’t serve a purpose to me, as I record heart rate along hikes, bike rides, etc. Cya later Trails. No more recommendations from me. 😢

Easy to use. Packed with features.

Great app. Easy to use. Packed with features. Good price. Can easily download maps for offline use; also, different map styles available, including topographical. Easy to import/export and share with friends.

Great so far but one addition would make it perfect

Been using this app now for a few days and find it works very well. I’m torn between my Fitbit app because it integrates my music in app. I would like to see my iTunes music control integrated in the app so I don’t have to flip between apps. Otherwise, great product!

Very nice and Easy to use

2018 Been using Trails regularly for about three years now and find it incredibly useful whether when riding my bike for exercise, horseback riding, to review performance when sailing, to keep track of long road trips or even recording a boat sea trial.

Has all the features needed and very reliable.

2015
I have only installed this app recently and used it a couple of times while horseback riding

Works great, stable, good features

Only gripe is that it cannot be installed on my iPad to view tracks. This is the first time I come across an app which simply doesn't show up in the App Store on my iPad whether by searching, looking at purchased apps (both iPhone or iPad only). Even when searching using publishers name../. Too bad it would be nice to review a ride on a big screen

It does what it should

I have been using the Trails app for about seven years. Recently the Trails app stopped working with the latest iOS. I was forced to buy the app in it’s new form and in so doing all of my other hiking data was trapped in the old unsupported app. I wrote an email to customer help and believe it or not, I actually was helped. It wasn’t a simple solution, but they walked me through it and stuck with it over an exchange of approximately 10 emails. These people really do support their app. I couldn’t be happier to have not lost all of that data. The new app is way better than the old one and has much better graphics. I think it’s money well spent for the Trails pro

Great training app

I use this app every other day on my 10 mile walking route through town. It seems to poll the GPS more often than other similar apps, giving a more accurate and detailed route. It also lets you review your pace, barometric pressure, etc. throughout the route using color coding. Overall a great training app. Can be used without a subscription, but it will only hold five workouts at a time if you do that. I just erase the oldest and record a new one. Of course if you want all your stats you'll want to subscribe.
