What's New in TrailShare
2.12.20
October 18, 2026
What's new in this version, in short. The TrailShare maps, drawn by us from OpenStreetMap data for the Alps and Italy, each with its own legend. The TrailShare map, with contour lines and shaded slopes, is for everyone: if you used the Standard map you are switched to it once, and Standard stays under "Map style". The free TrailShare night map is the same map in dark colours. The TrailShare winter map, with Pro, has ski runs, lifts, ski touring, snowshoeing and the hut winter rooms. The MapTiler Pro maps and the "Topografica" map leave the app: if you used them you are switched automatically to their replacement, and the app tells you once. Outside the area of the TrailShare maps you see the Standard map: there, contour lines, ski runs and the dark map have no replacement. Offline: download an area up to 40 km across with the TrailShare map, the night map and, with Pro, the winter map, only where the TrailShare map exists; elsewhere new areas can no longer be downloaded. Areas downloaded earlier stay, and deleting them now really frees up the space. The 3D view no longer uses MapTiler: underneath there is the TrailShare map or Esri imagery, and the video is exported only on the TrailShare map. In Plan, the place search starts from the keyboard's search key, no longer while you type. Recording works when you start standing still. If you start recording without moving, the first point no longer waits for you to walk a few metres: after 5 seconds the app asks the phone for a second position and, if the two agree, the first point goes into the track. Before, the track could stay empty until you moved, with the warning "No point recorded yet". If the phone cannot find your position, the track stays empty and the warning says so. The Dashboard "Total Time" is moving time, the one each track's card calls "Moving time" (or the duration, for tracks that did not measure it), no longer the time from start to finish. A track whose time is missing or cannot be true is left out of the sum instead of inflating it to thousands of hours; if no track has a known time, "—" shows instead of "0m". Imported GPX, TCX and FIT files get their real duration. The duration comes only from the times written in the file: a point without a time no longer makes durations of years, or negative ones. If the file spans several days the night does not count, and two 3-hour days make 6 hours. Tracks you already imported stay as they are. Saved trails no longer vanish without a connection. In "Saved Tracks" a trail the app cannot load stays in its place with "Trail not loaded" and a button to try again, instead of disappearing without a word. The same goes for the stages of tours. Discover from afar. The map zooms out much further than before, and from afar trails and huts gather in groups with their number: tap a group to zoom in, tap a point to open its card. This view comes from a list of the catalogue inside the app, and a line says what day the data is from. In Discover the chosen trail is now light blue with a white border and sits on top of the others, and filters also work in areas you have already seen: back in an area already loaded, "Exclude via ferrata" used to let via ferratas through. Plan zooms out further too; from afar a tap does not add a point, and the app asks you to zoom in. In Record the line that takes you back to the route has a new colour with a white border, and the voice that guides you back calls it by that colour. When the connection returns, the map you chose reloads by itself, instead of keeping the OpenStreetMap tiles the app had put in its place while offline.
