About

Tramontana shows what your drive will be like when you get there. Most weather apps answer a question you are not asking. The forecast at your destination does not tell you whether the pass will be under fog at seven in the morning, or whether that fire is on your road or six kilometres off it. Tramontana reads the weather along your route, at the hour you actually arrive at each point, and marks active wildfires on the same line. HOW TO READ IT Conditions are drawn on the road itself. Severity runs from 1 to 5 and is shown three ways at once, as a number, a colour and a pattern, so it still reads with sun on the screen or if colours are hard to tell apart. The pattern says what kind of hazard it is. A clear road is left unmarked, because colour is reserved for hazard. CHANGE WHEN YOU LEAVE Drag the time ruler and the whole route is read again for the new arrival times. Leaving two hours later can trade fog for a storm, and this is the fastest way to see it. WHAT IT WILL NOT DO Fires are seen by satellites passing overhead a few times a day, so a detection is commonly several hours old. Every fire shows its own age. A fire that started since the last pass will not appear. Tramontana never tells you whether to drive, and it is not an emergency service. If you are in danger, call 112. PRIVACY No account, no sign in, no analytics. There are no servers behind this app, so there is nowhere to keep anything about you. SOURCES Forecasts from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. Fire detections from NASA FIRMS. Fire danger context from Copernicus EFFIS. Routing and maps from Apple. All credited in the app.
