One of the best
I have tried a lot of these types of apps and this is one of the best.
Pros...
* Private/on device
* No subscription
* Works on older device with older os (as well as newer device)
* Tiny model available for device without much space (overall tiny model works well with English, but not as well for French - larger model works well for French)
* Really neat feature that highlights applicable (current) text in blue when listening to recording. No other app I tried has this feature. It's great!
* Options to play audio in background and record in background
* When you select text, you can get a translation
* You can delete the audio and keep the text (or delete both)
* You can customize the name of the recordings
* Doesn't require speech recognition permission (that would have been a deal breaker for me)
* Gives a lot of information (date/time, file size, model used, language, length)
* Fast transcribing for English on tiny model
* Good customer service
Cons...
* Not real time (quite fast for English on tiny model, rather slow for French on largest model)
* Translation not provided by default (but you can still get a translation if you select text)
* Can't edit transcribed text
* Search only seems to work with title (not content)
* Sometimes adds text out of nowhere (e.g. 'thank you'/'merci') and sometimes interprets silence as '(sad music)'
Wish list...
* Add button to copy (you can select the text but a button would be easier)
* Add option for larger text size
* Add more sorting options (e.g. sort by title)
* Add option to save to folders
* Add way to set default titles (current default title is long and gets cut off from view on smaller device)
* When you select text, add option to speak it (very helpful for foreign languages) - this feature already exists in the tablet version of the app but not the phone version
* Add option to show translation by default (without having to select text first)
* Highlight record/import buttons with another color (they blend in too much)
* Add option to NOT include any text when blank audio/silence, coughing, etc.

Fine, but there are bugs
Pretty bare-bones, but it largely works. On long audio files (I have two two-hour-plus ones) it seems to have a hell of a bug where the transcription will just repeat the same text over and over again, but if you listen along at that point to the audio file that means it is repeating that text when it should be transcribing additional, different things that were said while the transcription insists it was the same few words over and over and over and over and over. I've gotten this result with multiple different sizes of transcription engine, and pretty much always getting the same kind of bug, even if it's not always in the same locations.

Privacy is the priority
It works, records, transcribes. Simple.
It crashes during transcription, restarting the app fixes it.
It stops recording when a call come in, that’s annoying where other apps will pause and restart.
It’s simple, secure, has some bugs to be fixed… and features to add.

Great app and great developer
The developer was incredibly helpful when I encountered a slight issue with the app. I use this app for work, and finding a decent Welsh transcription app for iOS is difficult - but this does the job perfectly.
Great set of features
Really like this app. I have spent a few hours researching the available Whisper AI-based speech-to-text iOS apps, but none offer the same range of features as Transcribe Best, for such a low one-off price. You can watch highlighted transcription text as you play back the recording, you can listen to the recording while coming out of the app, and also record while coming out of the app or even the screen locking. You can select which Whisper model to use. And it's all done offline on your phone, leading to no privacy concerns with online cloud storage. I'd encourage other users not to be put off by the Apple Store rating or small number of reviews.

Top app - very accurate
Overall good I’m happy with the transcriptions from English. The Transcribing of other languages needs big improvement and is not so accurate. However when it comes to transcribing English audio the app does a great job and is very accurate!
Solid with caveats
I actually really like it. I used it to record and transcribe a Google Meet meeting. I went back to the meeting recording and used Google's closed caption function to check how close the app got. It's fairly accurate except with those with heavier accents from India while speaking English. Google does a fantastic job recognizing accents through their CC but they've got significantly more data points for their model.

Super simpel & funktioniert!
Ich nutze die App um Sprachnachrichten von Kollegen aus MS Teams und WebEx unterwegs zu transkribieren oder selbst längere Protokolle zu verfassen. Super Lösung die bedenkenlos genutzt werden kann, da keine Daten an irgendwelche Server gehen…! Außerdem ohne nervige In-App Käufe oder Abos! 👍
