Amaze Balls

Amaze balls being my highest compliment. This app is indispensable to any writer, particularly those working on several projects at once. So, every writer. The ability to organize thoughts on the fly into existing folders and new folders with ease means I now have a treasure trove of dialogue that deserves to see the light of the stage. And many thanks to this app- it will.

So easy

Notes apps can be so complicated and this one is so beautifully simple, I love it so far

One a the best note apps! A few flaws though

I love this! It’s super easy to create notes and I like how you can categorize things by both tags and projects, it’s really helpful for me since I have many ocs and multiple stories I’m planning. One thing I’d really like to suggest is images- often i find an image that gives me an idea but since I can’t put it in transom I either have to put it in my default notes app or have it get lost in my photos. There’s two bugs I also noticed, sometimes while writing a note my app crashes and if it didn’t autosave all of it I have to rewrite part of the note. Also pressing and holding on a tag in the tags page the app immediately crashes. I use an ipad on the latest version! I really hope the developers see this :)

Simple and beats using Notes

Writing is hard, but keeping my thoughts together for stories and projects is harder. With Transom I have a free space to keep my writing without it getting mixed with my grocery lists and the name of the new restaurant I need to check out.
Transom gives me space and an app to focus on my ideas and my craft.
LOVE the new writing reminder too.

Psycho Active

Our brains need a download. We need to clear our heads. It is the healthy thing to do. To think again. to9 activate our psyche. Change the vibration back to the natural earth frequency. There is a natural prescription and that’s why it’s so important for me to write....because I have the secret and I show you in a alchemical, metaphysical way, when you’re chosen. And that’s what this creator of the app Transom has done...;given us a platform to create, so for that I will be forever grateful. As you have changed my life. I know that as I begin to write. I’m not sure if I will need an editor, or self publish, or if I will be asked. A long term goal for me would be to start a publishing company, to inspire aspiring authors, once that have been gifted by the spirit to take them to the next level, in the best, safest, healthies, most respectful, and trusting kind of way. 🐇. ~Alice. The other side is the best place to be.

Thanks for the really thoughtful review. We are delighted and honored that Transom can inspire and empower writers like you to create. We wish you the best of luck in all your writing-related endeavors!

FANTASTIC 👩🏻‍🦳

As I have finally started to write daily, to (hopefully) fulfil my dreams of becoming a writer, over the last few months my mind has been overflowing with ideas, thoughts and inspirations and already I’d started to get fed up with searching various notebooks, emailed etc. to find my random scraps of notes. Then I found ‘TRANSOM’.

I have only been using this app for 6 days but already I am in love with it. I adore the reminders to write 100 words per day (which you can turn off or on at your leisure) and the fact that can view the calendar to see how often you are meeting this target - or not.

I am grateful for the apps automatic saving each time you close every thought. The thoughts are listed with the most recent on top of the list. Projects, once set up, (so far I have 8) are in alphabetical order and by clicking on the specific project shows you all the related thoughts, again with the most recent in top of the list. The tags (I have nearly 20) are listed alphabetically and are another useful way to find your related thoughts as these are listed with the most recent on top of the list also. I haven’t used the search option yet because I haven’t ‘lost’ anything because this app is so organised.

There is only one standard font, which is basic, but this does help me to avoid getting distracted enabling me to get everything down without worrying about it looking pretty.

What would improve this app? 🤷🏼‍♀️
1. It would be lovely if you could see just how many words you have actually typed each day.
2. Having a small choice of alternative fonts would be nice, however I am grateful for the options of ‘bold’, ‘underline’ and ‘italics’.
3. It crashes if you add emojis which although is a shame, this helps you to not get distracted too much but some people, like me, would definitely prefer to be able to add the occasional emoji to brighten up the words. I would be grateful if you could make this possible soon... please?

From a very happy user 😁

Wow. You’re making us blush. How thoughtful and generous of you to share this. (And we hope you counted this toward you 100 words today...) Excellent feedback, and warmly received. We’d love to hear more, if you’re willing: please email us at help@wearetransom.com.

One Word... FantasticApp!

,,,,,!,,,,,,,,,,,!

Can tell writers made this.

Great app for writers, especially those of us who have our best thoughts just before drifting off to sleep. Can't fumble for pen and paper in the dark, but can open this app and quickly capture the thought before it's lost (because let's be real—you're not gonna remember it when you wake up). Easy to note ideas for plots, names, outlines, and even write quick snippets before they leave your brain. Tags and projects make this much handier than the generic Notes app when it comes to writing-related notes. Thank you for this great app.

I Love It!

This app is great! Before it came along, I had a fragments folder in Scrivener which I used whenever I got an idea about something that happens in the middle of the story and wanted to write it at that exact moment for fear of losing the inspiration for it later down the road. I still do that sometimes when I feel I need to expand on it more and add more formatting, but this is always my go to when I have the urge to write something ASAP and don't want to open a project, then go to the appropriate folder, then well you know what I mean. With this app you just press one button and boom! You're ready to write! And now all the voiceover issues are fixed so even blind and visually impaired writers can enjoy the absolute awesomeness of this app.

As much as I dig this app and doubt I'll stop using it any time soon, here are a couple of suggestions that I'd kind of like to see. They aren't dealbreakers if they never get implemented, but they would certainly make me very happy.

I think it would be nice if we could assign tags to certain projects. For example, I like to tag my thoughts with the characters that appear in them, and it would be pretty cool if I could assign them to the projects they belong to. Secondly, it might also be cool to set a category for each tag. For example this tag is a character, this tag is telling you what kind of thought this is, for example a story fragment which I usually use this app for or a note with a really cool detail about your dystopian world that came to you when you were trying to go to sleep last night. Speaking of night, it would be really amazing if this app had a dark mode. I find myself getting inspired late at night a lot and the brightness of the app is a bit taxing on the eyes at night. And like other people said bold and italic would be nice. If you implemented that this app would replace my Scrivener fragments folder completely. And I know that this is out of order but one more thing, can we please please please be able to filter by multiple tags, especially in the projects list? That would be incredible.

With all that being said, thanks for reading my word vomit just then. I know that that was a bit much, but I had to speak up. Thanks for reading, and I hope you keep my ideas in mind.

BEST APP FOR WRITERS

I wrote my book with transom and it is the best.

Missing a couple of vital features

I can neither recommend nor use a writing app where I can’t make words italic. I wanted this so be the app that would finally do what I needed and replace the insanely basic and ill-equipped Notes app so badly, but italics or possibly the most basic requirement for a dedicated writing app that exist. There is also no way I could find to put links in my text, which is not nearly the same level of deal-breaker, but still something I am unwilling to function without.
The tagging system is still very nice to use, and while I would really like to be able to create sub-folders for an increased level of detail in my organizing, the tags more then make up for it. I might still use this app for taking inventory, but not as an actual writing app.

Hey there. Thanks so much for using Transom! Guess what: you can now format text in the latest version. Please go give it a try and let us know what you think. And please keep the feedback coming. (You’re also welcome to contact me directly at help@wearetransom.com.) We’re a tiny, tiny operation but we are dedicated to making a great, free note-taking app for writers of all kinds.

Two years gone because I didn’t have an account

Thanks

Easier than my previous notes app

So much easier to organize my thoughts/drafts/outlines on Transom than on my Notes App. Highly recommend!

Trouble

So, uhm I just downloaded this app because I wanted to try out something new for my writing, but when I go to make a document or story or piece whatever you want to call it, it doesn’t save... I don’t know what I’m doing wrong.. Could you have an explanation, telling us how to make our pieces? I’m so confused, and I was really excited for the app, please help developers I doubt your going to see this though...

Almost perfect / update

I was looking for the right notebook app and having no luck, until I happened upon Transom and realized those other, more cluttered apps aren’t what I need at all. Transom removes the friction between your thoughts and recording them, making it fluid, easy, and useful. After all, the best app is not always the most complex or feature-heavy, it’s the one you’ll actually use. For me, Transom is it. Why not 5 stars? Well, very little in life is perfect. Still, this app might achieve it if it allowed exports by tag (rather than the whole shebang), and if it were updated for the most recent iOS and phones. (I am a bit concerned it’s become abandonware).

Update: not going to knock it a star or anything - it’s still a good product - but I’m not interested in creating a new login (the reasons behind the login are not personally convincing enough for me) yet it appears I can’t liberate my data without first doing so. Which is kinda sucky.

Update 2: upon getting in, notes were all doubled up. Also: no apparent way to change associated email / password once set (although I presume you can change the password, at least, if you use the ‘forgot’ link - the email I guess you’re stuck with).

It's like your notes app, but for creative types

Transom is a great way to capture your thoughts and those lightning flashes of inspiration that you have on the go. The app is structured in a way that you can organize each thought then go back and incorporate these ideas into your work in progress. I highly recommend!

Export in some other format please

I’d rather export my “thoughts” as a text file or document (something I can edit) instead of pdf. Could you give us that option, please?

Very handy app

I love this app because it's everything I need to stay organized and on top of my sometimes random, sometimes structured thoughts. It's also a very simple and clean interface, which I enjoy, because it doesn't distract you from your task of translating and capturing your ideas.

Update: the most recent update made an already focused, slick, utilitarian app even better. Sometimes app makers hit the mark on simple, but fail to make it an enjoyable experience. This app does not fall into that trap.

Just not as good as it used to be

I liked the older version better. Being able so sort my notes by character and chapter within a story. This new setup is not as productive. It's too much like just having notes in a notebook or word doc. I'll try and figure out which notes are pertaining to which character and which chapter (for the stories I have on hiatus) and move them to google docs or something. No point in having several apps that do the exact same thing taking up space on my mobile.
Don't get me wrong this might work for someone else, but for me it's no different than having a word doc even with the tags.
