Good alternative to FB Buy Nothing

Wanted to continue doing buy nothing, but hated logging into FB. I've been able to give a lot of things to local people. Does not connect with Freecycle website, but that is okay - I want a giveaway site that I can access from my phone.

One update that would be nice: restrict who can send "interested" messages. Where I live, 15 miles is over 1.5hour round trip. The only flakey people I've had were ones who lived 15+ miles away asking for things that retail for under $10. The economics just don't make sense!!

Easy to use

This app was essential when I was moving. Connected easily and quickly with many people who picked up items for giveaway. Appreciate the location tags and speed of review for new posts.

Great purpose terrible app

I want this app to work. The idea is genuinely brilliant. But after months of use, the same problems keep killing the experience for both givers and takers.
For givers, the inbox flood is overwhelming. The moment you post something, you’re buried in messages — and there’s no queue, no ranking, no way to manage it sensibly. Then the person you choose doesn’t show up, and by the time you go back to the others, they’ve gone cold. You’re left starting from scratch with a sofa in your hallway.
For takers, items sit listed as available days or weeks after they’ve gone. You message, you wait, you hear nothing. It’s demoralising and wastes everyone’s time.
The fixes aren’t complicated: a simple request queue (first come, first served with automatic next-in-line notification if someone no-shows), a committed pickup window before a request is confirmed, a reliability score on every profile so givers can make informed choices, and auto-expiring listings with a nudge at day 7. None of this is radical — it’s just basic trust infrastructure that the platform currently lacks.
The full-screen ads are also actively driving new users away, which is self-defeating for an app that depends entirely on local network density.
This could be the best community app on the store. Right now it’s a good idea held back by poor UX. Please fix it.

Simple and Fast

I love Trash nothing because I can post something in a couple of minutes, including photos and if nobody responds, I can just recycle it the next week.
Also, I have received some things I really needed like a toaster oven and a microwave.

Great useful app

I just wanted to say that I really like this app and the way it is designed. It does what it’s supposed to do and does it well without too many distractions, or useless bells and whistles. Most importantly, it works very reliably, so I appreciate that the developers have put stability and longevity as a much higher priority than pumping out unneeded features. Excellent work!

Brilliant site for giving

I use this site frequently and have met the most wonderful people who come for what is unwanted by us From plants to frying pans ,from clothes to rugs Every person appreciates what we gave and even giving us practical help with things we can no longer tackle

I really appreciate this app

For many years I was a member of freecycle through yahoo groups. Yahoo ended groups then Trash Nothing took its place for me. I’ve been a member for 5 years and have gifted items I no longer needed and have been gifted really nice things I can use. It’s very easy to use the app as there are multiple layout options to see what’s being offered or requested. You can select the milage you are willing to travel. Communication is done in the app so you don’t have to give location or phone# until you’ve committed and are working out pickup. Most people set the item on their porch for quick pickup. It’s nice to give directly rather than a for profit thrift business that may throw it out. Also some items are not suitable for a store but is just what someone is looking for. This app works consistently well and is a great service to communities. Thank you to the developer.

Ok

Downloaded it as love to save unwanted items. Used Apple ID to sign in. Added some groups and it keeps throwing me out of looking and keeps advising me to look for more groups.

App deleted

Admins Bully you and...

They treat everybody as a scammer or somebody who wants to resell. (Hatfield and Rickmansworth Uk) On the App it says, to state if you will resell I have been a loyal member for about 5 - 6 years, and give so much stuff away, to struggling family's in my area. Admins just want to argue. Im through with this site, and I am uninstalling and deleting my account. Lets see how professionally support handle this. I have noticed that if a comment is negative here, no one responds

Easy to use - great app

I love this app. We moved house recently and I had so much to give away. Every time someone picks something up that we no longer use it’s gives me so much satisfaction. I just wish more people in need knew about the app. Thank you for creating it to bring us together with people who can reuse what we no longer need

Had enough

Really done with this app since you have to apply to join different freecycles and wait for approval. In the meantime the item you desperately need is gone while you sit and wait for that approval which might be rejected anyway. Defeats the purpose of reducing waste and helping people and has really killed the site. I'm over it. Good idea Trash Nothing but bad execution

Useless app

I’ve donated a lot of ítems with this app but every time I ask for something I’ve never received an answer. I don’t recommend it.

zero posts in my local region

installed, no activity here, deleting if i can ever find the remove app option

Not a fair app

The problem is, they stop your messages reaching anyone once you’ve got few items, it’s like they are doing that to make sure new people who join get stuff,

app doesn’t work

fix your app or take it off the app store.

Great site

Very pleased with Trash Nothing. Great way to pass on unwanted stuff, great way to reuse and reduce waste!

Extremely buggy

Apple ID does not work, constantly gets “join these groups” pop up at every scroll and gets stuck, requires restarts, just an awful app.

I like it but…

I set my location, and if I scroll
For 2 seconds it will crash out and force me back to the screen for setting my locations and what groups I want to be a part of. I can’t even browse the posts before being asked if I want to set my zip code and the surrounding areas again. It makes it frustrating to use.
