Great idea, Inconsistent Execution

I love the idea behind this in theory, but using the app or website to get the shipping label is glitchy and times out often on me...didn’t know that was still a thing and definitely not a good look at the shipping counter. After I use my last bags, I unfortunately won’t order more.

Total Scam

Do not use this, it’s a total scam

Does NOT make things easy, only frustrating

I have an account on the website and subscribed to the unlimited plan, but I cannot access it on the app at all. The app refuses to allow me to log in, either using Apple or my email (which is my Apple email). The app makes new accounts when I try to log in and there is no function to delete the old accounts, and I cannot access my subscription, so the app is essentially useless.

I really regret even trying Trashie at all, since the website also refuses to allow me to order the “free” take back bags.

Bad UI and No Shipping Labels

Was excited to use this service but have already ran into multiple issues trying to use it. First, the UI for the app is very frustrating to use. Not intuitive at all and has annoying drop downs that cover the whole screen. Quite honestly haven’t seen another app with such a bad UI. Second, getting QR codes to ship my bags failed. It’s been over two weeks and still no labels. Customer service is responsive and nice but the service has major issues. I would use another service if I had to go back and do it all over again at this point.

Wish it was easier to use

I love this service BUT it is nearly impossible to use. The only thing that is easy to do is sign up for the service. I have to constantly hunt around to return a bag, or get a tech box label. It seems like the main purpose of the app is to sell peripheral services not actually do the thing the company stands for. It is super frustrating.

Buggy

Sometimes wont open but mostly fine

Love Trashie but the app is the worst

Trashie as a company is awesome, been using their take back bags for years with no issue. The app, however, is awful. I just updated (because I was forced to, it wouldn’t let me continue on a previous version) and now it just takes me to a blank screen and keeps quitting on me. PLEASE invest in a better dev team and improve the app!

App does not open.

The app simply does not open. What am I supposed to do now? This is such a scam.

Bad app experience

The app is unusable. Probably was made with AI and didn’t go through human review. Hopefully there’s an update soon because I really like the idea of this company.

Please fix the app!

Love Trashie - hate the app. Regardless of the number of updates, restarts, etc, the app is as full of glitches as the Trashie bag I’m trying to return.

It should be a simple process - and easier than the website. But alas, it just appears to be a sales tool

Response from developer

Thanks for sharing this feedback, and we really appreciate your support of Trashie. We hear you on the app experience. It should absolutely feel simple, reliable, and easier to use than the website, especially for core actions like managing returns and checking in bags. That’s the standard we want as well. Your feedback about glitches and usability is valuable, and we’re continuing to work on improving the app experience. In the meantime, many features can also be completed through the website if that’s been smoother for you. If you ran into a specific issue with your Take Back Bag return, please reach out to help@trashie.io and our team would be happy to help.

Terrible app

The app is slow and stalls out. I’ve also requested the “take back box label” that comes with my membership and it NEVER appears in my shipping labels tab. On top of that the dimensions required for the box you supply yourself with are 11x3x15”. Who has boxes like that lying around unless we take them from the post office or buy them? If the tech box actually works and sends the labels effectively this would be worth the near$70 annual fee but so far, no box labels. And for an environmentally conscious brand, I hope they’re not using AI for their customer service, because AI is TERRIBLE for the environment. I most likely will not being renewing the subscription

Response from developer

Thanks for sharing this, and we're really sorry for the frustration here. The app experience you’re describing isn’t what we want, especially when it’s impacting something as important as accessing your Tech Take Back label. That label should also be sent directly to your email, so if you’re not seeing it there or in your account, something may not be loading correctly on our end, and we’d definitely want to look into that for you. For the box, the requirements are meant to work with common shipping boxes you may already have at home. The guidelines are up to 10 lbs total weight and no side longer than 16 inches. That said, we understand that may not always be convenient and really appreciate the feedback. Also, just to clarify, our customer support is handled by real people, and we’re always here to help! If you’re open to it, please reach out to us at help@trashie.io so we can get your label sorted and make sure everything is working as expected. We appreciate you taking the time to share this.

Such small rewards

We have sent tons of clothes, some electronics, and got a $5 coupon. I’m sorry, but no.

Response from developer

Thanks for sharing your feedback! Trashie is designed as a textile recycling program first, with rewards offered as an added benefit for participating. The cost of each bag helps cover return shipping and the labor required to sort and responsibly route items so they can be reused, repurposed, or recycled instead of ending up in a landfill. That said, we recently updated the rewards system so TrashieCash is now shown in real dollar amounts, and milestone bonuses increase as more bags are sent. Our goal is to make the rewards clearer and more meaningful over time while still supporting responsible recycling. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!

Meh.

I’m going to give this 2 stars because an ad popped up and it really intrigued me. I have a ton of clothes I need to get rid of and this seemed like a fun way to do that. After creating an account and looking into it a little more, the subscription is rather expensive. And on top of that, I’m giving you possibly 15 POUNDS worth of clothing, and all I can get is discounts on more clothes??? And not great discounts.
Also, getting nothing more than a $5 gift card and you’d have to send 5 bags worth of clothes to even get it. Kinda seems like a scam.

Response from developer

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. We completely understand wanting clarity before committing, especially when it comes to subscription pricing and rewards. The cost of the Take Back Bag or membership supports return shipping, sorting, and the responsible processing of up to 15 lbs of textiles, along with distributing usable items to charity partners. The rewards offered are intended as a benefit of participating in textile recycling, rather than a dollar-for-dollar exchange for the clothing itself. Gift card and partner reward values are shown clearly before redemption so customers can decide what works best for them. While it may not be the right fit for everyone, the program is designed to make textile recycling accessible and sustainable at scale. We appreciate you giving it a look and sharing your feedback.

QR Code Access Crashes App

I registered my bag and selected “show QR code”. Drove to UPS store. Every time I try to access the QR code to scan so I can ship the bag, the app shuts down. I restarted my phone, I deleted and reinstalled the app. Same issue. I was unable to ship the bag.

Very frustrating to waste so much time trying to recycle clothes responsibly.

Response from developer

We’re really sorry you experienced this. A bug was affecting QR code access in a recent version of the app, but our team has since released a fix. If you’re still seeing any issues, please make sure you’re on the latest version of the app and try again. If the problem continues, our support team at help@trashie.io is happy to provide an alternative shipping option right away so you don’t have to make another trip. Thank you for your patience, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to recycle responsibly!

Easy to use

The Trashie app makes decluttering way easier than I expected. It feels really good knowing my old clothes and random stuff are actually being reused or recycled, plus getting rewards for it is a nice bonus.

Response from developer

Thanks for sharing your experience! We’re happy the app’s working well for you and appreciate you being part of the Trashie community. If you’ve got ideas to make it even better, email help@trashie.io. We read every note.

Clunky and bad UI

Restoring your password shouldnt be painful. UI is also horribly tiny and discover tab doesnt even load. Too bad the service is good, but app totally sucks.

Response from developer

Thanks for calling this out. Password reset should be simple, and the tiny UI and the Discover tab not loading are on us. Our team is actively fixing these in upcoming updates. If you can share your iPhone model, iOS version, and app version at help@trashie.io, it will help us verify the fix. We appreciate you using Trashie and we’re working to make the app experience match the service.

Always freezing

Every time I open this app, it tries desperately to send me a one time login link (despite me having a password) After a couple of attempt it lets me use the password but then the app doesn’t allow me to do anything. It’s just a frozen page with a blinking eye logo. None of the buttons work, I cant check my account, can’t look at any products or deals. Always end up having to go to the website instead.

Response from developer

Thanks for flagging this! We’re aware of the one-time link login loop and the frozen screen you’re seeing, and the team is actively working on a new login flow and stability fixes. If you’re willing, send your iOS version and device model to help@trashie.io so we can pinpoint it faster. We really appreciate your patience while we get this cleaned up!

They charge $98 a year

$98 annual fee for this seems expensive. I'm going to wait on this app.

Response from developer

Thanks for the feedback! Just to clarify, the Trashie app is free to download and use. The $98 you saw is for our optional Trashie Unlimited membership, and you don’t need a membership to use Trashie. Thousands of customers have found options that work for them, from single Take Back Bags to Trashie Unlimited.
