Useless

Installs a profile that automatically connects your device to networks that don’t actually let you connect to the internet. Massive time and battery waster. Avoid.

Doesn’t give you WiFi 🤬

So I was going to go to Japan for 2 weeks and I found this app on the way so I thought I would get WiFi but the app was so confusing I didn’t even know how what to do.The other problem was that it said that there was 200,000 hotspots but they were not working so it is very useless.

“An internet connection is required for processing.”

I stopped at a Family Mart to install this app, but ended up uninstalling it again because I couldn’t get past the first “Terms of use” page. Horrible user experience.

Convenient and Easy

If you are ok with installing the profile then this is an excellent way to get free WiFi. You just need to register once and as long as a network is in the list it will automatically connect you. Currently there are 31 networks listed in the profile certificate as of Oct 2019.

If you don’t want to install a profile you can use the app to connect. If you don’t want to use the app then you will need to register each time you connect.

This is amazing and so convenient. Prior my trips to (2017) there was barely any free WiFi networks, but since the country is preparing for the olympics there has been a significant push in free WiFi infrastructure. I just wished I knew about this app at the beginning of my trip.

Feedback

Good app and helps a lot! This app is more common in Japan. So I recommend to people who looks for good wi-fi
👌🏻

Waste of time

Don’t get this app. Literally to use it, it said I needed a WiFi connection... furthermore, when I did have a connection (that I was able to get for free just by testing random open WiFi networks) this app would say that “you are not in Japan”

Sort of works

The only thing this app is good for is that it installs a Wi-Fi profile for wi2 premium service which uses WPA but otherwise most of the networks are a bunch of already free networks. At least it let’s you skip the landing page which isn’t bad at all but really I don’t see any other value. To use the app you need to register but the problem is to register the only choices are Facebook and Weibo profiles that you can go link. There is no email option. Therefore I would install the app get the profile then delete the app.

Works Fine

I tried to get on WiFi in a Tokyo Starbucks and it directed to this an an app. It let me use the Starbucks WiFi to download the app via the “Apple store”. I gave it an email, which is a spam sponge anyway and I don’t care, and it started working. Good enough to chat, check email, and look at maps.

Works fine

App works fine, it overcomes barriers to using WiFi in Japan. While there are lots of WiFi hotspots, they only work if you have a local carrier. This app helps overcome that, it’s only for tourists, so download before you come over. It’s finicky to get working, you need to change carrier settings. Remember what you’re doing because you have to remove that profile when you get home or your phone won’t work in the states. I always forget how to do it and when I land stateside I have the headache of trying to research the solution without an internet connection. Same thing when in Japan, you can’t use WiFi to download this - chicken and egg problem. That’s why you need to get it before you come over.

Doesn’t work and is sketchy

This app probably violates the TOS

Drains battery at all cost

I'm very disappointed that Apple approved this app, there should be a policy rule against apps like this. It runs in the background and drains the battery even after disabling GPS access and Background App Refresh. Even the app really gave something valuable (which is not the case) this kind of behavior should be unacceptable.

Drains your battery

It's been draining my battery with background activity

Best japan wifi app!!

It became a new APP, and it became to be able to use it steadily. Even without "premium code" it is nice to be able to access 200 thousand spots.

Useless to me

This has to be one of the most worthless apps I have ever downloaded. Promised a lot but delivered nothing. Nearly impossible to set up, and it persistently refuses to believe I am in Japan (last time I checked Tokyo was still part of Japan)

gimmick of government

doesn't work, used my gov to track tourist behavior.

Horrible app

Useless.

Be aware of tracking your move!

I am extremely disappointed with this app and mostly be aware of unwanted tracking device, which might be installed on your device. Here is my story and please form your opinion based on your own research as well. When I arrived at the train station to obtain my JR Pass, there were several people at the station strongly soliciting to install wifi access throughout Japan and assist installing the app. First, I thought I would need wifi access throughout the trip, so I obtained one. Then when I first tried to use, it did not work. And it did not work at all throughout my trip. What was worse that, I had noticed that every new place we visited I would get the message from Travel Japan, which I realized that they were tracking where I was visiting. Therefore, I had no wifi access during the trip from Travel Japan and at the same time, they were tracking where I was. Even though the trip was just leisure travel, I am not too fond of a company or a government tracking where I am visiting and it is upsetting that they pretend to offer a great service for free, but actually install a tracking device as a result. I could be wrong but that was my experience. You will see that after posting my review, there would be a contradicting review indicating it. However, the truth is that I did not have wifi access during my trip, not even once.

Wanst geht my FB or G+ info as condition. Thanks but No thanks.

Worse than useless. Requires a Facebook or Google log in to function at all.

Worse than useless—a scam. Basically puts you to work to sell yourself as a product to its advertisers and offers nothing in return. Just go to 7-11 for wifi.

Requires users to authenticate through Facebook or Google to offer any service at all. No thank you. However this is a perfect example of the hoop-jumping, anti-consumer, creation-by-committee mindset that permeates Japan and in that sense should prepare you nicely for the frustrations that await.

Completely useless

Nearly unusable, only managed to get connected 1 out of 10 times using this app, even with a premium code!
