About

Every night, the moon has a name. In old Japan, people did not just watch the moon wax and wane — they named each night of its journey. The full moon is Mangetsu. The night after, the moon hesitates to rise, so it is called Izayoi, "the hesitant moon". Then come Tachimachi ("stand and wait"), Imachi ("sit and wait"), Nemachi ("lie down and wait") — names that trace how, night by night, the moonrise comes later and people waited longer. Tsukigoyomi brings this poetic lunar tradition to your pocket, together with a precise moon-age calendar. TODAY'S MOON - A beautifully drawn moon disc showing tonight's exact phase - Moon age, lunar day and illumination percentage - Tonight's traditional Japanese name with reading and meaning - Countdown to the next full moon and new moon - Traditional tide name (Ōshio, Koshio…) derived from the lunar day — handy for anglers MOON CALENDAR - A month view with a mini moon for every single day - Find full moons, new moons and named nights at a glance - Tap any date to see its moon, name and tide MOON NAME GUIDE - All the traditional names from Shingetsu (new moon) to Misoka-zuki - Readings, romaji and the story behind each name Tsukigoyomi works completely offline, collects no data, and needs no permissions.
