FULL ACCESS TO YOUR LIBEARY
The Type S Drive app does not need to upload anything from your library and it shouldn’t. It supposedly only saves downloaded dashcam footage to your phone. So why what do you need FULL library access for?
IOS has offered a privacy-preserving option since iOS 14 called "Add Photos Only" which covers videos too, that lets an app save new media without ever seeing what's already in your library.
Type S is not using it, which means Full library access is their choice, not Apple's requirement.
Given that this has been flagged repeatedly in App Store reviews as I can with the other review, and still no fix, means that it's either developer negligence or something more concerning, an app that wants to see your existing photos and videos for reasons that have nothing to do with saving your dashcam footage.
That last part is the part worth sitting with. There's no functional reason a dashcam companion app needs to browse your library. If they wanted to fix it, it's a known API that's been available for years.

Very useless app, don’t connect with camera

This cam is so great! It's just that if your phone is connected to your carplay it won't connect your app to your phone, so you need to disconnect carplay first or use your wifes phone for the app which we did and you can perfectly manage the cam or review videos/galleries on app. or if not you can just use the cam itself if you need to review something. And has those great safety features that are really awesome!

Complete failure
Connecting is major problem, unstable. After connecting make sure that camera is rolling. Download is another issue…speed of turtle. No option without phone connection. App is total failure. Bought from Costco and returning.

Why do you need full access to photos?
I gave the app permission to save photos/videos. That’s should be enough, but it won’t let you access files on your phone unless you give full access to your photo library. Disappointed.
Untrustworthy
Why do you need access to location, local networks, Bluetooth, all photos, etc? Seems extremely suspicious of a cheap overseas app.

This app is an absolute garbage 😡. It refuses to connect to my S402 dash cam. I’ve tried everything, including uninstalling and reinstalling it multiple times, and even giving it unlimited access to everything, but it still won’t connect!
My second major concern is its excessive and suspicious demand for full access to my photo gallery. I have many other apps that can save photos and videos to the gallery without demanding full access.
I strongly advise against using this app and will return the dash camera to Costco .soon

The new app looks ugly. I like the old white app better.
Fix the app design. Data never synced or stays logged in.

Why should an app that just needs to download videos from the dash cam to the phone need to have access to the entire photo album?

App works
The app does what I needed to do is easy to understand and intuitive. Just make sure you’re away from your home Wi-Fi if you try to connect because your phone won’t want to connect to the dash cam if it’s on its home Wi-Fi network.

Going right back to Costco
Who in the **** thought it was a good idea to link the interface via wifi and control it via a phone?! Everybody is all ready connected to THEIR HOME WIFI up to like 100´ from their house. Absolutely stupid design decision. Thank god for Costcos return policy. Zero stars.

The quality on the phone video is around a 240p.
The Ai system is not needed, seems everyone is just plastering the name AI on everything these days.
LDW is not great could be better, still have set off a pedestrian warning yet even though the function is turn on.
That doesn’t run when location is turn off. It is great the functionality is there for people that like being track by every gosh dang app on the market.
I understand that you need the Bluetooth for file transfer, why not only have the Bluetooth functionality only available when users are actively transferring data to the device.
Wifi functionality to view the view is pretty much useless now. I cannot get the app setup to work.

Not functional
App will not connect. My iPhone 16 is connected to the dash cam’s WiFi, but the app displays this message, Application device can’t connect to Type S DVR07
I’ve tried two different iPhones (13 and 16) as well as tried this in airplane mode per the manual’s instructions.
