About

Rehearse your talk. Get gently roasted for saying "um" 47 times. Um listens while you practise a presentation, an interview answer or a pitch. It counts your filler words, measures your pace and your pauses, scores the run, and hands it back with feedback that makes you want to go again. Everything happens on your iPhone. No account, no backend, no upload, and no audio file is ever written to disk. WHAT IT COUNTS Detection is word-aware, never crude substring matching. "Umbrella" is not an "um". "Likely" is not a "like". "You know" is one habit, not two words. Several fillers are only fillers in context, so each one carries a rule: • um, uh — always • like — after a pause or a conjunction, not after "it's" or before "to" • so — opening a sentence, not in "so that" or "so good" • you know — standing alone, not in "you know what I mean" • kind of, sort of — hedging, not in "a kind of sensor" • I mean — standing alone, not in "I meant to" • basically, actually, literally — always The result is a count you can trust instead of one you have WHAT ELSE IT MEASURES • Pace — words per minute, with a curve showing where you sped up and where you dragged • Pauses — the healthy beats that read as control, and the s • Sentences — how many you actually finished, and how many trailed off • Delivery — how much your pitch moved, so you can hear the ce does • Clean streak — how many sentences in a row you got through without a filler WHILE YOU SPEAK A live count, a pace readout and your current clean streak, ve Activity keeps them on the Lock Screen and in the DynamicIsland, so you can put the phone down and just talk. Interruptions are handled properly. Take a call, switch to headphones, plug in a Bluetooth mic — the rehearsal survives it. AFTERWARDS A score out of 100, broken into clarity, pace, pauses and de one to work on. A full transcript with every filler marked in place. A timeline you can scan. And specific notes: the busiest ten seconds, your longest silence, your fastest stretch, your cleanest run. Rehearse the same talk again and watch the numbers move. 31 ums, then 24, then 18, then 11. HONEST ABOUT ITS LIMITS Pitch is an estimate from the microphone signal, and the app shows it. When there is too little voiced audio to judge, ittells you instead of inventing a number. When a language pack does not supply word timings, it says pause detail is approximate. A rehearsal too short to score fairly is shown with a note rather than a con Scoring only ever describes observable delivery: how often a the pace drifted, how long the silences ran, how much thepitch moved. None of it is a claim about you. PRIVACY On-device speech recognition is required, not preferred. If model on your iPhone, Um shows an error rather than quietlysending your voice to a server. Audio buffers are analysed and discarded. Your transcripts and scores stay on your device.
