About
WHAT YOU DO
• Brush away dirt with one finger to reveal what's underneath.
• Walk around the dig with two fingers so no part stays buried.
• Uncover the whole piece to complete the find and read its museum label.
• Keep every artifact on your collection shelf, then dig again for a new one.
REAL PIECES, REAL NAMES
Some of what you uncover is real: museum objects from the Smithsonian's open-access 3D collection — Kangxi blue-and-white porcelain, a Delft ewer, Thomas Commeraw's salt-glazed stoneware jug, a Greek kylix from around 800 BC. Clean one off and its label tells you what it is, where and when it was made, and which museum holds it. The rest are hand-picked ceramics, from a floral porcelain teapot to white vases printed with Redouté's roses.
YOUR SHELF, PHOTOGRAPHED
The moment a piece is clean, it's photographed and set on a plinth in your collection — the actual artifact you uncovered, lit by the sky you dug it under. Rare finds wear an amber edge. Tap one to excavate it again, or share the photo of something you're proud of.
