Overtourism has been defined as ”impact of tourism on a destination or parts thereof that excessively influences the perceived quality of life of citizens and the quality of visitor experiences.”
Having lived in Italy for the past several years, I have seen how overtourism displeases both residents and tourists. So when I discovered Unexpected Italy on Instagram, I immediately downloaded the app to discover some authentic artisans and businesses to support when I travel around my chosen host country.
I was thoroughly impressed with Savio who reached out to me directly when a business failed to respond after I had sent an inquiry to them via the app. Unexpected Italy is easy to navigate and the people behind it are clearly passionate about sustainable tourism and providing unique experiences.

Suggerita da amici, l’App ti immerge in contesti che neanche gli abitanti di Roma conoscono. L’abbinamento con le realtà enogastronomiche e artigianali permette di scoprire la città nella nella sua vera essenza. Grazie!

Un viaggio indimenticabile
Un nuovo modo di scoprire l’Italia, attraverso luoghi e volti veramente “unexpected”!! L’app è anche molto bella esteticamente! Icone carinissime e consigli divisi per tipologia di viaggiatore. Stupenda!!
Enorme potenziale !
Quest’app ha un enorme potenziale, l’idea di base ha una missione nobile oltre ad essere originale. Se continueranno ad aggiungere a poco a poco altre città penso che avrà molto successo soprattutto tra gli italiani. Sentiamo sempre che il nostro paese è ricco di luoghi interessanti da vedere ma ogni qualvolta si fa una ricerca per trovare luoghi da visitare puntualmente sbucano le solite attrazioni ( bellissime ovviamente ma che non esprimono la vera identità di un luogo ) pertanto vedere finalmente un’app che fa tutto questo per te con una grafica accattivante e così ben fatta anche se momentaneamente in fase beta fa molto piacere, bravissimi gli sviluppatori continuate così!

Un app fantastica che ti da la possibilità di conoscere nuovi luoghi e di scoprire la realtà autentica di quel luogo fatto dalle persone e dagli artigiani che vivono in quella località.

È l’app perfetta per chi cerca esperienze diverse dal solito
App unica che offre molto di più di un semplice itinerario di viaggio.
Ha una varietà di esperienze proposte interessantissime, tutte gestite da host locali che amano condividere la loro storia e cultura (e lo riconosci già solo dalla descrizione degli host).
È semplice da usare, intuitiva, stra consigliata a chi cerca qualcosa di diverso dai soliti tour.
E per chi come me ha già visitato tutte le città principali ed è convinto di aver visto tutto, con l’app scopri sempre nuovi luoghi ed esperienze nascoste, particolari ma soprattutto autentiche, e ti fa rendere conto che in realtà hai visto forse il 5% della città.
La cosa che sicuramente mi ha colpito di più è il fatto che ogni host è selezionato attentamente e rispetta determinati requisiti (tra sostenibilità storia, tradizione), questo rende le esperienze ancora più interessanti.

Perfetta per chi sa cosa vuol dire viaggiare
App in continuo sviluppo anche per altre città in tutta Italia, ti permette di scoprire le vere realtà e le vere tradizioni che ogni paese può offrire. Permette di scoprire posti incantevoli, lavori artigianali ormai scomparsi e approcciarsi all’arte e alla cultura locale, tutto tramite app creando un percorso che spazia su vari ambiti. Utilissima anche per il saper mangiare bene e per il pernottamento. Complimenti

TWO PEOPLE SAVING ITALY!
Savio and Elisabetta became good friends after I attended 3 of their London tours. Savio is a native Italian from Puglia and Elisabetta grew up in the north with an Italian father and British mother. They have a deep love for preserving the unique history and culture of Italy by discovering its quiet talent of artisans, pasta makers, cheese specialists, craftspeople etc. Italy is at risk of losing its identity with over tourism that invades the towns and cities in masses. This way of seeing Italy is ultimately disappointing for the visitor as well as the locals who see hordes of tourists ruining their country. Enter Unexpected Italy! They’ve traveled to every corner of Italy to discover all the individuals who make this country so lovable. And now they have an app to share their discoveries with visitors who long for a unique experience. We are all so fortunate to benefit from these amazing treasures!

I am very happy to give Unexpected Italy 5 stars! Rome can be a very expensive city and I really needed a small boutique hotel or even an Airbnb. Unexpected Italy suggested a small, 7 room Airbnb in the lovely neighborhood, Prati. Beautiful part of Rome where you can walk everywhere but away from the crowds. It was a perfect location. Because of Unexpected Italy I was greeted warmly by the owner and it felt like my home after 5 days.
Being a foodie, I reached out to Unexpected Italy for restaurants that was patronized by locals. Not only did they make my reservation but was again greeted warmly with a glass of Prosecco. Every dining experience was delicious. I could have not found them without their recommendations.
If you are planning a Rome holiday or elsewhere in their Beautiful country do not hesitate to reach out and they will recommend, direct you to places of your interest, being a certain store, craftsperson, accommodations, museums…. You will not be disappointed with this wonderful company!

Che bella scoperta!
Unexpected Italy è un'app davvero eccezionale per chi desidera esplorare l'Italia in modo diverso dal solito. Mi ha permesso di scoprire gemme nascoste e luoghi meno conosciuti, che altrimenti avrei sicuramente perso. La grafica è piacevole e l'interfaccia semplice da usare, rendendo la navigazione tra le varie destinazioni facile e intuitiva. Ogni suggerimento è accurato e ben descritto, offrendo un mix perfetto di storia, cultura e consigli pratici. L'app è ideale per chi cerca esperienze autentiche e fuori dagli schemi. Perfetta per chi ama viaggiare in modo autentico
Unexpected Italy è un'app sorprendente che trasforma l'esperienza di viaggio in qualcosa di veramente unico. L'ho utilizzata per esplorare angoli nascosti del Paese, lontani dai soliti percorsi turistici, e mi ha fatto scoprire delle chicche pazzesche che mai avrei trovato utilizzando i soliti itinerari. L’utilizzo è intuitivo e semplice, soprattutto grazie alle dettagliate mappe che ti porteranno a scoprire le un sacco di curiosità storiche, artistiche e culturali, perfette per chi vuole assaporare la vera essenza di un luogo, infatti ci sono consigli preziosi anche su moltissimi ristoranti e attività locali! Assolutamente da scaricare per chi ama viaggiare in modo autentico!
