idk why all this hate for this synth, maybe because when it came out ages ago had some issues? I have no issues whatsoever on my ipad pro and I think this is one of the best sounding and most interesting synths, period, despite its age! I own like over a hundred synths on the iPad alone. Sugar Bytes rock! All their stuff is a league of its own they come loaded with useful presets. just get it.

The most sluggish and laggy synth on iOS
I have been very patiently waiting since its release, hoping for an update to fix the crazy laggy and sluggish UI on 'newer' devices. But after all this time it seems it has still been ignored by the developer. I reduced my rating because of this. If you read also the reviews of their iPhone version you will find the same complaints from users. I own an iPadPro 9.7 with 256GB and even the most demanding apps run extremely smooth on it, except for this one. I own all other SugarBytes apps which run smoothly as well, so this is their worst product so far in my opinion. Sorry for the harsh words, but they have been giving the benefit of the doubt for a very long time since the release of this app but have done nothing in the mean time about all the many complaints of users. Still no update, no fix, no AU.... NO STARS!
Update to 2023: i now own the latest and maxed out iPad Pro M2, and still this is one of the most sluggish running synths of everything that I own. I guess my review from 5 years ago is still acurate and this is a very inefficiently programmed piece of software. I usually love all the Sugarbytes software and Inown all of it, but this is my least favorite one due to how laggy the whole experience feels.

The issues are fixed. This synth rocks. I have eyed it forever but passed due to reviews. Time for some others to take the plunge!

I have seen no evidence of slowness or lag, even on my old pad.
The app has never crashed in my years of using it.
The little on-screen keyboard was improved.
I do not care about presets, and cannot imagine basing a public synthesizer review on my opinion of the presets, even if I used presets.
This synth has compelling sound quality and highlights two-stage formant filters and simple, useful automations. It has a good range of sound possibility, has its own, distinctive character, is very straightforward to use, and gives complex results in minimal patching time.
What’s not to like? Buy, enjoy.

I love it!
I’m surprised by all the negative reviews.. this is an amazing little synth.. I’m using it to get those hard to create RUSH synthesizer sounds.. well worth the price!
It’s lagging bad on iPad Pros
Edit: None of the below have been addressed, another thing to add is that the onscreen keys are lagging real bad when trying to play something faster. This is on the 10,5” iPad Pro.

Unique is a classic desktop plugin synth. It has its own sound, and will provide some new unique timbres in iOS land. It's great, amazing, awesome yada ya da etc, except for one thing...
Look. At. The. Keyboard. It's 1 octave. You literally can't play the thing. 2 octaves is bare minimum, up to 2,5-3 octaves should be in the options. I'm scratching my head here as this is the first Sugar Bytes app with a new touchscreen friendly facelift. That and the fact that the actual synth is great.
I'll update my review when I can play this beautiful synth.

Sounds nice , sugar bytes do nice apps.
I have seen that all of sugarbytes apps have a low mark from one Person who seems upset , I use aum 99% of the time , Audiobus very little these days..
Check the compatibility and any future plans from Apple to drop support for certain things , I trust sugar bytes will do the best they can for users on iPad while dealing with iOS future plans.
Otherwise I’ll use an old iPad which has been stuck on an older os ..

I bought this as an iPad app... which has limited use at best.
Why limit it further by taking away audiobus?
I would NOT have bought the app if it had this limited connectivity initially.
Uhmm... Sugar Bytes.... you do know that an iPad isn’t like a mac or pc?
It’s a bit disrespectful to your customers to be taking away or massively changing functionality like this.
(Why not see what Roli did with Seaboard 5d and Noise when they tried to completely change the app?)

A Gem
You can get synths with envelopes and LFOs and all kinds of the usual stuff but this one is special and in a great way. I won’t explain because you have to trust me that it is great. Its not weird. It just does things in a special way to create wonderful sounds. You have to have it because it’s a one of a kind. Wow is a good word for it. Oh yeah, it’s more fun than most.

Not impressed
I have just installed this and going thru the default patches, they all sound the same. Each one is a slight variation of the last and not inspiring, boring is what comes to mind.
Patches should showcase a synth, and if this is your showcase then I have just wasted my money. sorry 1st impressions last.

Still Crashes
Crashes on recent filterfix fixed. Ok back to the drawing board. Guess Unique is pretty much sunk.
Working properly for me as of 1.08
It’s a great synth, it’s fun to program, it looses two stars because of the poor QC during the last two updates. It would have been FAR less damaging to the developers reputation to have noted in the app description that an update was coming ‘soon’ and gotten those updated right from the start, rather than to have loosed the prior updates upon the world....
But I can now recommend it without hesitation and with the hope that any future updates (if they’re ever needed) get proper testing prior to release.

Pretty cool synth!
I have no latency nor sluggishness on my 12.9" iPad Pro. The vowels voicing is real good but Unique is missing one very basic feature...note hold.
