About

Urban Gallery turns your city into an open-air art gallery. It maps the public art — sculptures, murals, installations, monuments — across 30,000+ cities in 200+ countries: more than half a million works, wherever you go. Every piece tells you what it is, who made it, and how to walk there. The gallery is free to browse and free to walk — tours stick to art you can visit without a ticket. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Browse a live map of public art — your city and beyond. Zoom out to see neighboring cities as dots, then dive in to explore. • Filter by type — sculpture, mural, installation, monument — or search by artist or title. • Sort nearby pieces by real distance from where you're standing. • Tap any piece for the artist, year, materials, and a description. Where Wikimedia Commons has a photo, we show it with credit; otherwise "See photos" runs an image search. • Build a curated walking tour from where you are. Pick a duration, a starting point, and the kinds of art you want — the tour fits the time you have. • Save tours, mark them as walked, and revisit them later. BECOME A PATRON One person builds Urban Gallery. The free tier shows a small banner ad; the Patron pass clears the ads and lets you add pieces to the gallery from the field — a fresh photo, your phone's location, a few details, and it's on the map for everyone. Patron is an auto-renewing subscription at $4.99/month or $39.99/year; the first 100 annual Patrons get a Founding rate for year one. Renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends; manage or cancel anytime in your App Store account settings. WHY WE MADE IT Most public art lives in scattered city datasets, OpenStreetMap tags, and museum archives. No one had pulled it together into something you can use while walking around. Urban Gallery is the "do" tool we wanted — not another museum app. The city is already the museum. WHERE THE DATA COMES FROM Each city's gallery is assembled from open-data portals where they exist, OpenStreetMap contributors worldwide, and photographs from Wikimedia Commons via Wikidata. Sources are credited per city in the app's Settings. PRIVACY The app works without an account — optional sign-in just lets you save tours across devices. Free-tier ads are served by Google AdMob and use tracking only if you allow it when iOS asks. Full privacy policy at backroomstrategies.com/urban-gallery/privacy. FROM BACK ROOM STRATEGIES Urban Gallery is built by Back Room Strategies Ltd, a small civic-tech operation. Contact: seth@backroomstrategies.com. What's New in Urban Gallery

1.8.3

June 20, 2026

• Browse the map — explore public art around the world without picking a city first. • Patrons can add a piece or photo from a shot you already took, from anywhere, as long as it's geotagged. • Saint Paul's sidewalk poems now have their own "Poetry" category on the map. • Maps in dense cities now show all their art (busy areas could previously go missing). • Fixed a bug that could leave the app stuck on the loading screen, plus reliability improvements.
