About
Memento mori
Vanitas delivers one quote each day. One reminder, at the time you choose, to live the hours you still
have a little more deliberately.
No streaks. No gamification. No endless scroll. Just the practice that contemplatives, Stoics, poets,
and monks have kept for three thousand years, fitted to an iPhone.
— THE PRACTICE —
• One quote per day. That's it.
• Read the author, source, and the story behind the line.
• Favorite the ones that stay with you.
• Revisit everything you've received in the Archive.
— THE LIBRARY —
Hundreds of carefully verified entries across four registers:
• Philosophy — Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, Epictetus, Montaigne, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Simone Weil.
• Poetry — Dickinson, Keats, Rilke, Dylan Thomas, Mary Oliver, Larkin, Whitman, Shakespeare.
• Scripture — Ecclesiastes, the Psalms, the Gita, the Dhammapada, the Qur'an, the Tao Te Ching.
• Modern voices — Oliver Sacks, Joan Didion, Paul Kalanithi, Viktor Frankl, Toni Morrison, James
Baldwin.
Each quote includes source, date, and a short context note — so the line arrives with its history
intact, not stripped down to a motivational slogan.
— THE NOTIFICATION —
Choose how your reminder arrives:
• Fixed time — every day at exactly the hour you pick.
• Random window — some time between, say, 9 AM and 9 PM. Startling by design. The unpredictable moment
that asks you to stop.
Either way: one notification. One quote. No badges, no re-engagement nudges.
