About

This audio unit plugin enhances synthesizer patches by making them responsive to MIDI velocity. It can function as a MIDI-controlled filter or volume control, adding natural musicality to non-velocity-sensitive sounds without altering their core tone.

Not gonna listen to a single word

This is the most elegant sophisticated most aesthetically appealing and pleasing piece of art From this developer!

Point 1. Literally never come across a single similar piece of app like this.

Are you the God?

Phfffffresh!

This sounds totally different from the lowpass filters in my synths, in a good way and it’s very easy to use.

They did a nice job of setting the range limits of the controls so that you can get a variety of tones out of it but you can’t dial in any sounds that are so extreme that they wouldn’t be musically useful. So it sounds good regardless of where you set the filter cutoff and the upper and lower gain limits. Adjusting it is just a question of deciding which flavour of “good” you want to hear today.

FAQ

What is Velocity Filter?

Velocity Filter is an audio unit plugin designed to make synthesizer patches respond dynamically to MIDI velocity. It converts non-velocity-sensitive sounds into velocity-sensitive ones, acting as either a MIDI-controlled filter or volume control.

How does Velocity Filter improve synth sounds?

Instead of distorting the tone by modulating gain, Velocity Filter uses a high-shelf filter. This allows lower velocity notes to sound softer with less high harmonic content, creating a more natural and musical response without compromising the original patch's tone.

Can Velocity Filter be controlled by more than just MIDI velocity?

Yes, in addition to MIDI velocity, Velocity Filter can also be controlled using MIDI-CC or aftertouch signals, offering flexible modulation options for your synthesizer patches.

What are the limitations of Velocity Filter?

Velocity Filter processes all notes through a single filter, meaning simultaneous notes with different velocities will be affected by the loudest. It also has a slight delay (approx. 1ms) in transitioning from loud to soft, which can be problematic for synth patches with very fast attack times.

Does Velocity Filter work with GarageBand?

No, Velocity Filter does not support GarageBand because GarageBand does not allow MIDI messages to be sent to audio effects plugins.

What hosts can I use Velocity Filter with?

Velocity Filter is an audio unit plugin that runs inside compatible host applications such as AUM, Audiobus, Cubasis, Auria, and Beatmaker 3.

How much does Velocity Filter cost?

Velocity Filter is a paid application, priced at $2.99. There are no in-app purchases or subscription fees associated with its use.

How often is Velocity Filter updated?

Velocity Filter was last updated on November 17, 2020, to version 1.0.5. It was initially released on July 24, 2019.
