With Venice: Close Up, Ferrante looks past the standard historical sites, the Basilica of San Marco, St Mark's Square, the Doge's Palace... and instead focuses on the wealth of texture and detail hidden in the majestic city's cracks and corners. His close-ups inhabit the space between abstraction and representation, cultivating impressionistic responses while also exploring the peculiarities of modern infrastructure-pipes, conduits, vents, fans, drains, and gutters.
The phrase "a personal history of parts of objects" best captures the aesthetic of these photos, which focus on enjoying and exploring the details of objects situated in their environments.
