What's New in VeriCite
1.2.0
July 15, 2026
New: Retraction detection. If a paper has been retracted by its journal, VeriCite now flags it clearly and links to the retraction notice. Citing a real but retracted paper can be just as damaging as citing one that never existed. More rigorous verification: • "Not Found" and "Check Failed" are now clearly distinguished. Network problems are no longer reported as "the paper doesn't exist" — real papers won't be mistaken for AI hallucinations. • Failed checks no longer consume your daily quota. • The lookup chain now compares all sources and keeps the best match, reducing false "Partial Match" results. Fixed: DOIs containing parentheses (such as 10.1016/S0140-6736(97)11096-0, common in older Lancet and Elsevier papers) were not recognized correctly.
