About

Gainesville's history is written in its brick streets, historic homes, buildings, and the stories passed down through generations. The Landmarks, Legacy & Lore Tour begins downtown at the beautiful Cooke County Courthouse and proceeds to the historic South Gainesville neighborhood, where grand Victorian homes, charming cottages, Tudor, Italianate, Craftsman, mid-century modern, and other distinctive architecture create a remarkable collection of Gainesville's past. Explore other historic places throughout Gainesville; the story doesn't end at the neighborhood's boundaries. Along the way, you'll encounter more than dates and architectural styles. You'll find stories of ambition and perseverance, family traditions, unexpected discoveries, and local characters who helped shape Gainesville. The legends include tales that may have grown a little taller with each telling through the generations. The Historic South Gainesville Neighborhood Association is dedicated to celebrating the rich history and cultural heritage of the South Gainesville neighborhood. Our mission is to preserve and showcase the architectural beauty and stories behind our historic homes, inviting you to explore our vibrant past. Whether you're a first-time visitor, a history buff, or simply curious about the community around you, Visit Historic Gainesville, TX offers a new way to experience the past. Homes are not open to the public, so we invite visitors to enjoy the tour from the sidewalk. Explore Gainesville, TX through the Landmarks, Legacy & Lore mobile app tour.
