What is Vocab Companion?
Vocab Companion is a free, research-backed learning platform designed to help users master English vocabulary. It employs a spaced-repetition algorithm based on the Fibonacci sequence to optimize learning schedules.
How do I add words to my practice list?
When you encounter an unfamiliar word, you can add it to your 'Word Bank' within the app. The app will then fetch its definition and initiate the spaced-repetition review schedule for that word.
How does the spaced-repetition schedule work?
The spaced-repetition schedule is based on the Fibonacci sequence. Each time you answer a word correctly, it is scheduled for review after an increasing number of days: 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, and so on.
What happens if I answer incorrectly during a quiz?
If you answer a question incorrectly, you will receive immediate feedback. You will be given another opportunity to answer the word correctly at the end of the quiz. The word will only advance in the practice schedule once you get it right.
Can I customize which words I learn?
Yes, Vocab Companion allows you to customize your curriculum. You can add specific words you encounter and wish to learn to your Word Bank, or use the 'Add 10 Random Words' feature to expand your vocabulary more generally.
