Into the darkness

Even the darkness you find light to guide your way<3

maybe there is a bug. got to “heal” sign and wasn’t an apparent way to heal.

starting off with a full set of plate mail is a bad sign. what’s your next armor? a mech suit?

Good. but has greater potential.

I will most likely be copy and pasting this review across different platforms as I’m genuinely surprised the single dev hasn’t thought of making a discord server or a place for suggestions or feedback which is quite strange. Otherwise talking about Watcher Chronicles:

The game is pretty decent. Besides the non customisable controls, janky delay between moves and weird map system I do see the potential. However I want the dev to focus on many subjective flaws I’ve witnessed with 20 hours in and as someone who’s played multiple souls like and from software games.
1. The Mobile controls - I’m not sure the priority of the mobile port , however the controls need to be fully customisable for a game that requires such precision/timings like a very precise parry etc. now the defaults aren’t bad but they are also not great. Furthermore, the game has a delay between moves as I’ve noticed, maybe to balance timings but for a lot of actions like attack into block this delay seems almost in the way.
2. The map - not much to say except for a souls like metroidvania with secrets and a open world, we should be at all times be able to see the map. A hollow knight styled map would be very fitting especially with the type of vibe this world tries to set and it should get updated as one discovers new areas divided by clear biomes on a world map
3. General Gameplay - the general gameplay is…. Fine. The mashy combat with the stamina system isn’t bad but I would rather have a game focused around precise timings like the parry, a feature which in this game is actually done really well but goes almost completely under the radar for the fact that the delay between moves allows for little follow up. The parry is already hard to get down and adding a delay between parry and attacks is just weird. Moreso the fact the parry should replenish stamina but the first instance of a block takes away stamina. It seems almost backwards when you could realistically just use a dodge. I believe the game should try and streamline more what it wants to be: are you trying to opt for sekiro parries? Are you trying to have a mashy style like Hollow Knight? Or are you trying to have precise hits in between boss attacks like the Souls games?
4. The Bosses - having watched someone beat every boss all I can say is they have two major issues: a missing “reward” factor and a repetitive issue. First the bosses all lack a rewarding finish and execution, once you defeat a boss they explode, drop some umbra and boom they’re gone. The explosion is a nice touch but afterwards I should truly feel like their defeat either improved me as a player or it aided in the story. Something that I do not feel. A weapon drop, armour drop or attachment drop which is unique to bosses would easily solve this issue. Second, bosses are too repetitive. The game has so many mechanics to take advantage of yet fails to use more than 3 in boss fights. We have a jump yet no boss uses moves that cover the ground fully. Maybe undodgeable or unblockable sweeps which the player needs to jump over etc. we also have a parry but besides getting an opening for the boss once or twice a fight nothing really helps it. For example a parry could deflect projectiles, reflect damage/lower posture -> could lead to stuns etc. I understand it’s a mobile game, but I think adding more complexity than just attack, side dodge run repeat, we could get something truly satisfying to master
All in all the game is decent yet I just have some major hiccups I wish the devs took time to acknowledge.

Great game

This game is the greatest game I have ever played. I struggle with the first boss but I managed to beat it in the end.

Please make another game of this really love it

simple cartoonish hack n slash

It is a really fun game to play lot of weapons too choose from, attribute level up systems, dodge roll block all action element in it vast world map with multiple levels. long time play through, boss are progressively harder. overall a fun action snack game

things need to improve
need to add more attack patterns, currently only weapon normal attacks no strong attacks combos or other special attacks.
action buttonsare poorly placed although you can add buttons on the screen but you can change the position direction are on the bottom left corner, jumps are on the bottom right, can’t change the scale of the small button
prone to mistip

Despite above i personally think it is a good game to enjoy for what it’s worth.

Just BUY it.

It was so worth my £7 when I realized I had put well over 10 hours into beating this whole game. The level design, the enemy design, the weapon and magic design, all of it is A++++. The combat itself and the animations were all fluid and felt really fun to do and I just found myself wondering why isn’t this game more popular?

They got the little things right

It’s incredible how the small things in a game like this can make it or break it. Everybody has a “thing” that they love to do in games, even if it doesn’t necessarily “help” you. For me it’s destroyed random parts of the environment. I don’t care if the wooden crates give nothing when destroyed… I just want to destroy them. It fills in the gaps between enemies with a more interactive world. There are plenty of other things to like too from the level design, boss difficulty, and class variety. Apart from the fun vibrant art style, I wouldn’t say there is anything that is extremely unique about this game. It’s just all well balanced, flows nicely, and just difficult enough to make you have to focus. I’ve only defeated 3 bosses so far and they are definitely getting more difficult. But I am also getting better and stronger

Pretty good

The game is fun and pretty challenging. I like the 2d souls approach. The price for the game at 8 bucks feels right.

Fun Game Just You Have To Pay

I love how the game plays I just wish you could go farther without paying actual money to play the full game because I would now rather play it on Switch or PlayStation and pay the extra 10 dollars for an easier and better quality version of this game

Not too shabby

Nothing like Castlevania or The last Faith, but if you want an engaging 2D side scrolling Metroidvania, would definitely recommend. I only played through the first area, so I’m going off on that alone, but first impressions are important and I was left happy.

Best game I’ve played on IOS

Pay for the full game and don’t give a bad rating because of a free trial. This game is absolutely fantastic. Thank you for making it. Please do a sequel

Best IOS Souls Like hands down

Everything I love about the Souls games in a mobile package, loot, difficulty, dodging, cool armor, builds, big bosses…3D souls likes just don’t work on the phone this is perfect , loved it!!

Holy Crap!

This is a good game. Like no joke this is one of the best souls like I’ve seen on the Apple Store. It’s got good mechanics, the first boss fight was great with intense music and you having to learn his move set. Admittedly there are a few mechanics that need polishing but the most part is pretty good. I am actually excited to play this game and discover the world within.

Great game, terrible controls

Don’t bother unless you have a controller. Plays well using a Backbone, but is nearly impossible to play using the touch controls. If you were able to customize them by moving them or mapping them differently on the screen that may help. The combination of weird placement and some actions requiring swiping makes the touch controls a complete mess though.

Weapon and stat balance is a mess. Hotboxes are terrible. Was really hoping for some decent tier souls like 2d gaming, but this is cartoony awful in its current state.

Unbelievable

I can’t believe that I wasted 1.5 GB of my internet to just play a demo it’s unbelievable.
Creators you are suck😡👎

No

Do not advertise your game as free when it isn't. 99% of mobile games are a horrible cash grab, this one is probably no exception.

Excellent game!

Very fun game to play. I’ve played 4 times the story and can never get tired of it!

Great game for the $8

I am a huge fan of the souls series and honestly , this game is wholely worth the $8 price tag. I actually would have paid a bit more out of hindsight. Very simple yet polished controls. The graphics are very crisp for a mobile game and I never experienced any noticeable frame loss while playing.

It mimics the souls playstyle and I was very fond of it within the first area. To keep the review short, if you enjoy the souls series, I highly recommend this game.

My only tidbit of advice - playing with a ps5 or other controller will likely make the experience a little more enjoyable. The controller feels a lot more natural and responsive with how fast you need to react in certain situations.

Great job to the devs!
