Add a pedal line, a descant, or a countermelody. Choose a slower practice speed while you record your part; the finished recording plays at full tempo. A count-in gets you started on the beat. On consoles with moving stop controls, draw the stops for your part before you begin - your registration is preserved when playback starts.
